A junior naturalist series is offered at the Dyken Pond Educational Center every Tuesday afternoon from 1 to 3 pm, June 26 through August 28. This series is for all ages, the cost is $1 per child, and pre-registration is encouraged but not required. Pre-register by contacting the Center at dykenpond@fairpoint.net or 518-658-2055.

Grafton Planning Board Action – Shooting Range

The Grafton Planning Board met on June 18 with only one item on the agenda, the site plan application by Les McDermott for a shooting range and gun store on his property at 303 Old Siek Road. The main purpose of the facility is to provide training by certified instructors to retired police officers who, by federal law under The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2004 (HR218), may carry concealed weapons if they re-qualify yearly. Grafton VFD Breakfast
The Grafton Volunteer Fire Department along with the Grafton Ladies Auxiliary will be holding an All You Can Eat Buffet Breakfast on Saturday, June 30, from 8 to 11 am at the Grafton VFW – Fire Hall on South Road (County Route 85) . Belgian waffles, pancakes, French toast, eggs (made to order), sausage gravy & biscuits, bacon, sausage, home fries, toast, orange juice, coffee and milk are on the menu.
The cost is $8 per adult, $4 for kids 12 and under and free for kids 5 and under. We look forward to serving you!

Scholarships Available For Dyken Pond Children’s Nature Camp
The Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center announces that scholarships are still available for children aged 6 through 14 to attend a one week nature camp. The popular camp is called the “Summer Outdoor Learning Adventure” and is held from 9 am until 3 pm, with after care hours available. June 22, Friday – the Albany Area Astronomers’ Association will host its monthly Star Watch from the Deerfield Pavilion at 9:30 pm. The rain date is for the 23rd so watch the skies for weather conditions. Please call Bernard of AAAA at 658-9144 to confirm.
June 23, Saturday – Family Fishing Day – learn how to fish on Long Pond from 12 to 2 pm. As part of Free Fishing Weekend, the Park and DEC’s I Fish NY program are offering a free introduction to fishing for families. Meet along Long Pond Dam near the boathouse. Fishing poles will be provided. To hear the I Fish NY talk, please show up at 12 pm; fishing will be ongoing after that until 2 pm.

Serious Questions At The Grafton Town Board Meeting

A question from former Supervisor Tyler Sawyer at public comment time at the end of the Grafton Town Board meeting on Monday brought forth the information from Deputy Supervisor Cathy Goyer that she had expanded the hours of the Secretary to the Supervisor to full time. She said she did this “a week or two after the May Town Board Meeting.”
This appeared to be news to all four of the elected Board members. Both Barbara Messenger and Rick Ungaro told this reporter they learned about this “today.”

Grafton Library Late June Events
• Friday, June 15, at 4 pm – LEGOs at the Library. Come to the Library and build with LEGOs. All ages are welcome. Duplos are also available. This program is free and occurs every third Friday of the month
