Spring Wildflower Walk At Dyken Pond

A walk on “Spring Wildflowers and Forest Plants: Identification and Folklore” will be held at the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center on Saturday, May 19, from 10 am until noon. The leisurely walk will focus on the identification and folklore of spring flowers and other forest plants. The event is free and pre-registration is encouraged but not required. Capital District Friday Field Group Outings

The Capital District Friday Field Group, formed in 1993, is a mix of amateur and professional naturalists that meets weekly on Fridays at 5:30 pm between April and September to explore the natural features of sites in the Capital Region.  The trips are free, and the public is welcome.  Upcoming Trips:
May 11 – spring wildflowers in a rich hardwood forest at Pittstown State Forest
May 18 – marsh and swamp at Tamarac Wetlands in Brunswick

Grafton VFD Bly Family Benefit Buffet Breakfast

The Grafton Volunteer Fire Department along with the Grafton Ladies Auxiliary will be holding an All You Can Eat Benefit Buffet Breakfast on Saturday, May 26, from 8 to 11 am at the Grafton VFW – Fire Hall on South Road (County Route 85). Belgian waffles, pancakes, French toast, eggs (made to order), sausage gravy and biscuits, bacon, sausage, home fries, toast, orange juice, coffee and milk are on the menu. The cost is $8 per adult, $4 for kids 12 and under and  free for kids 5 and under.
All proceeds will go to Rick Bly and family. The Blys lost everything in a house fire on April 14. Please come out and help us support this family. There will be a 50/50 raffle as well.

The History Of The Poestenkill Fire Company

On Tuesday, May 22, the Poestenkill Historical Society will present a program on The History of the Poestenkill Fire Company. Late in 1919 a group of civic-minded men, led by Marvin Foster, worked long and diligently to organize and equip a fire department in Poestenkill. Petersburgh Scouts In Camporee

Boy Scout Troop 222 from Petersburgh will be participating, along with hundreds of other fellow scouts, in the Mahakin District Spring camporee being held May 4 to 6 at the Grafton Lake State Park in Grafton. Troop 222 will be attending the three day event that will include camping, a free carnival midway, a park service project, the annual tug of war, an adult Dutch oven competition and a campfire with skits. The public is invited to enjoy all the scouting adventures and activities. Former and alumni Scouts are encouraged to join the fun. Most activities will occur on Saturday, May 5, from 9 am to 4 pm.

Cemetery Restoration Seminar At Grafton Lakes State Park

The Grafton Historical Society’s Cemetery Committee and the Grafton Lakes State Park are sponsoring a seminar on cemetery restoration on Saturday, June 9, from 9 am to 3 pm. The seminar will be held at the Grafton Lakes State Park.
These seminars are hands on … you will get dirty….. you will learn techniques in resetting stones, cleaning and adhesive repair.
