The Poestenkill Historical Society will be celebrating Black History Month with a special presentation on The Underground Railroad. The guest speaker will be Judy Rowe, Sand Lake historian. Rowe has researched and written many articles and given workshops and lectures in many areas. Her lecture, “The Invisible Road to Freedom,” focuses on the Underground Railroad in Rensselaer County.

Grafton VFD Breakfast
The Grafton Volunteer Fire Department along with the Grafton Ladies Auxiliary will be holding an all you can eat buffet breakfast on Saturday, February 25, from 8 to 11 am at the Grafton VFW – Fire Hall on South Road (County Route 85). Belgian waffles, pancakes, French toast, eggs (made to order), sausage gravy & biscuits, bacon, sausage, home fries, toast, orange juice, coffee and milk are on the menu.
The cost is $8 per adult, $4 for kids 6 to 12 and free for kids five and under. We look forward to serving you!
Animal Tracks And Traces At GLSP
Grafton Lakes State Park is hosting a Winter Recess Program, Animal Tracks and Traces, on Saturday, February 18, at 1 pm. This program will include an introduction to reading the stories left in the snow by fox, deer, rabbits and other forest dwellers along with a short hike. Come dressed for the weather and learn how to track and trace animals found at the Park.

Make your own pine cone bird feeder to bring home. Meet at the Park Office. The cost is $3 per person which includes snowshoe rental. Registration is required.

A Party For Sue Putnam
Last Friday was Sue Putnam’s last day on the job as Secretary for the Town of Grafton. She retired after serving over 25 years in that position. Grafton Stephentown – Gregory E. Stevens, 54, of Middle Way, Grafton Stephentown, NY, died on Tuesday morning, January 31, 2012, at his residence, under the care of Community Hospice of Rensselaer County.
Born in Ayer, MA, on October 8, 1957, he was the son of the late Earl A. Stevens and Luanne James Stevens of Petersburgh, NY. He was the loving husband of Cheryl A. Gundrum Stevens, whom he married on December 19, 1987, in Grafton.

Sue Putnam Resigns As Grafton Town Secretary

At the Grafton Town Board meeting on Monday, January 23, the Board accepted a letter of resignation from Sue Putnam from her position as Town Secretary, in which she has served for 25 years. Supervisor Ray Darling thanked Putnam for her long service, and the audience responded with a standing ovation for her. Sue Putnam will continue in her elected position of Town Clerk, and the Board appointed her to a new four year term as Registrar of Vital Statistics by unanimous vote.

Snow Was Perfect For The 27th Annual Winter Fest

The morning snowfall came just in time. Saturday’s snow created the perfect backdrop to another successful Winter Fest. For 27 years, Grafton Lakes State Park’s Winter Festival has been the highlight of the usually dormant winter season by offering outdoor enjoyment and free entertainment for the whole family.

Corned Beef And Cabbage Dinner
The Grafton Volunteer Fire Department along with the Grafton Ladies Auxiliary will be holding a buffet style corned beef and cabbage dinner on Saturday, March 17, from 4 to 8 pm at the Grafton VFW/Firehall on South Road. The cost is $9 for adults, $4 for kids six to twelve years and free for kids five and under.
