Grafton – Charles J. “Charlie” Hamill, 66, died suddenly on Monday, January 23, 2012, at his residence.
Born in Albany, NY, he was the son of the late Thomas J. Hamill and Mary Frey Hamill and the loving husband of Jenny Lynn Spiak Hamill of Grafton, NY. They were married for 39 years.

4-H Pre-Teen Fun Day
A day of Science for Rensselaer County Youth in grades k-6 will take place on Saturday, February 18, from 9:30 am to 2 pm at the Brittonkill/ Tamarac Middle School. 4-H Teens will engage youth in five different recycling activities to ensure they walk away with new ideas of how and what to recycle and the importance of recycling.

February 4 – Wildlife Tracking Full Day Intensive with Alcott Smith. Alcott has a loyal following, a number of people attend this workshop each year, Alcott is that entertaining and informative. Experience tracking native animals in this all day field intensive. Participants should know their abilities and be prepared for a day outdoors in any weather condition. Pre-registration is required. Grafton And Petersburgh Youth Football Careers End

In mid November, Noah Grandjean of Grafton and Joshua Kluck of Petersburgh celebrated their last year of football. Both boys played a total of seven years for the Brunswick Bulldogs in the Northeast Youth Football League. They each started playing in the Bulldog Flag Division at age four for three years. Then they played two years in the Junior Tackle Division, and, finally, finished their two years of Senior Tackle Division this past year.

A Program On The Erie Canal
The Poestenkill Historical Society will start the new year with a program on the Erie Canal by guest speaker Marvin Bubie. Bubie’s second book is an accumulation of seals from places along the Erie Canal. He will be showing the seals and telling interesting and funny stories related to them. The majority of seals are pictured in color in his book, available at the program.

Molly Durnin Debuts At Caffe Lena
Singer-songwriter Molly Durnin of Petersburgh makes her debut at the Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs, on Wednesday, January 18, at 7 pm. Caffe Lena is the region’s foremost folk club with a national reputation for presenting the best in acoustic music. Durnin is being featured in the venue’s monthly Emerging Artist Breakout series.

The Polar Plunge At GLSP Benefits Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
Applications are now being accepted for participants in the fifth Annual Polar Plunge in Long Pond as part of Grafton Lakes State Park’s Winter Fest. The Winter Fest is in its 27th year with events occurring all day, January 21. The plunge happens promptly at 1 pm with check-in beginning at noon.

GLSP Ice Fishing Contest
Grafton Lakes State Park and the Friends of Grafton Lakes State Park will host an annual Ice Fishing Contest as part of their 27th Winter Festival on Saturday, January 21, 2012. The ice fishing contest will run from 5 am to 3 pm on all the ponds in the Park. This year the contest will offer a $500 grand prize to the longest fish. Prizes are also awarded for the top three lengths of trout, walleye/pickerel and yellow perch for both adults and youth 15 and under.

Grafton Organizational Meeting 2012

On January 4, the Grafton Town Board held its annual organizational meeting at 7 pm in the Town Hall. The meeting was very well attended, the room being almost full.
