At the December meeting of the Grafton Historical Society officers and trustees were elected and installed for the upcoming year.
Newly elected officers are Robert Hill and Anne Kiely, Co-Presidents, Audrey Bartus, Vice President, Dorothy Surprise, Secretary, and Joseph Ferraninni, Treasurer. Trustees elected to five year terms are Ron Bartus, Anne Kiely and Tom Kiely. Patricia Niebuhr, Grafton Town Historian, conducted the installation ceremony.

Grafton Volunteer Fire Department Breakfast
The Grafton Volunteer Fire Department, along with the Grafton Ladies Auxiliary, will be holding an all you can eat buffet breakfast on Saturday, January 28, from 8 to 11 am at the Grafton VFW – Fire Hall on South Road (County Route 85). Belgian waffles, pancakes, French toast, eggs (made to order), sausage gravy and biscuits, bacon, sausage, home fries, toast, orange juice, coffee and milk are on the menu.
Cost is $8 per adult, $4 for kids 12 and free for kids under five. We look forward to serving you in 2012!
GLSP 27th Annual Winter Festival
Grafton Lakes State Park and the Friends of Grafton Lakes State Park will host the 27th Annual Winter Festival and Ice Fishing Contest on Saturday, January 21. The Winter Fest will feature winter exhibits, vendors, family friendly and recreational activities. The Winter Fest is free of charge and main events run from 10 am to 4 pm.

Grafton Planning Board Shake Up Expected

The results of the November election in Grafton will be bring a lot of changes to the Town. One may be that the Grafton Planning Board will be completely reorganized. At its Organizational meeting on January 4 at 7 pm the Grafton Town Board is likely to appoint a new Planning Board Chair to replace the current Chairman, Tom Withcuskey. How many of the other current members will stay on the Planning Board is anybody’s guess. Planning Board Secretary Jessica Crandall does not know if she will be reappointed. And there is a question as to whether Sal Ferlazzo will remain as the attorney to the Town Board and the Planning Board.

The Grafton Rescue Squad held its annual elections on Decemeber 14 during an open meeting. Newly elected officers will assume their positions after taking their oath on January 11.

Grafton Town Board Action – Open Governance For The Grafton Ambulance

After complaints at last month’s Grafton Town Board meeting that interested citizens have been excluded from meetings of the Grafton Ambulance Squad, Town Supervisor Tyler Sawyer sought an opinion from the New York State Committee on Open Government about whether those meetings, by law, are required to be open to the public.

Tyler Sawyer Appointed Hoosick Bookkeeper

Town of Hoosick Bookkeeper, Janet DeLuca, recently resigned. “She resigned from all the departments,” said Town Supervisor Keith Cipperly in a phone interview on Monday, December 5. DeLuca was also involved with the Town’s swim program.
Cipperly said Tyler Sawyer of Grafton was appointed her replacement effective December 1. Sawyer was Grafton Town Supervisor from 1998 through 2007. He is again Town Supervisor, completing the term of Allison Kirchner who resigned earlier this year. Having lost the election in November, his term ends this month. Sawyer has been bookkeeper for Grafton for several years. “I think he’ll do a great job,” said Cipperly. “He has a lot of experience, and he will bring a lot to the Town.”
Francesca Gundrum Selected For Student Leadership Conference In Australia

Francesca Gundrum from Grafton, a junior at Emma Willard School, has been selected by the National Coalition of Girls Schools (NCGS) as one of only two delegates to represent the United States at the 2012 Student Leadership Conference, January 18-22, at The Women’s College University of Sydney in Australia.
