The Grafton Democratic and Grafton Citizens Parties would like to welcome everyone to a Meet the Candidates Night on Saturday, October 15. The event will be held at the Grafton Bed and Breakfast on Route 2, just east of the village. The hours are 7 to 9 pm.
This is a great opportunity to meet the candidates for Town of Grafton and Rensselaer County offices and to discuss their records and their plans for the future.

Grafton Historical Society Wine And Cheese Festival
The thirteenth annual “Spirits of Fall,” a wine and cheese festival, will be held on Saturday, October 22, from 4 to 6 pm at the historic Grafton Inn. The event is sponsored by the Grafton Historical Society.
This popular event features award winning New York State wines as well as an array of New York and other cheeses. Once again, there will be plenty of other hot and cold appetizers. We are also pleased to continue to have many door prizes and a raffle basket that features homemade and gourmet items.

Leo Thomas Bruns Sr.
Grafton – Leo Thomas Bruns Sr., 76, formerly of Grafton, NY, and most recently of Troy, NY, passed away peacefully at home on September 29, 2011, after a brief illness.
Born in Johnsonville, NY, on May 10, 1935, Leo was the son of the late Frederick and Mary (Pemrick) Bruns. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1962. He was recipient of the National Defense Service Medal. Leo was employed by the former General Electric Plant in Waterford, NY, for thirty years. During this time, he was warehouse supervisor and a shop steward for the IUE Local 359, Buildings 42 and 43.

Brunswick Grange Tailgate Sale
On Sunday, October 2, Brunswick Grange will hold its annual fall agricultural tailgate sale at the Schaghticoke Fairgrounds, Rt. 67 and 40, Schaghticoke, from 8 am to 12:30 pm. More than 50 vendors will have various varieties of chickens, ducks, geese, pigeons, plants, flowers and other related agricultural items. A donation of $15 per vendor will be charged. Children’s Fall Foliage Hike
The Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center will hold a children’s Fall Foliage Hike on Wednesday, October 5, from 10 to 11 am. Children up to age eight can attend this hike. Bird Seed Sale To Benefit Friends Of The Dyken Pond Center
Bird seed is being offered by the Friends of the Dyken Pond Center this fall as a fundraiser to support programs and activities held at the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center. This is a one time sale and bird seed must be pre-ordered by Friday, October 7. There will be a pick-up day on Saturday, October 15 at the Capital Agway located on NY Route 7 in Brunswick from 9 am until 12 noon. Two Public Hearings – One Approval

Two public hearings were held before the Grafton Planning Board regular meeting on Monday, September 19.
At 6:30 pm the hearing on the Marcel Forette two lot minor subdivision on Miller Way, a private road off of Blue Factory Road, was opened by Planning Board Chairman Tom Withcuskey. The Forettes were present as was the irrepressible Bill Darling, the surveyor who has represented the Forettes during the application process. The Grafton Peace Pagoda 18th Anniversary Celebration is Saturday, October 1 starting at 11 am. The Pagoda is welcoming over 30 Nipponzan Myohoji monks and nuns from all over the world for the Grafton Anniversary Celebration and the Opening Ceremony of the new temple at the New England Peace Pagoda in Leverett, MA.

September 25, Sunday – 25th Annual Barge Chaser Canoe and Kayak Race. Registration is at 9:30 am. The race starts at 10:30 am. Bring a potluck dish to enjoy after the race. Barge Chaser entry fee is $10 per person.
September 25, Sunday – Nature Hike at 2 pm. Explore the woods and learn about the wildlife and the landscape and learn some local history. The fee is $2 per person. Call 518-279-1155 to register.
