At the Grafton Town Board meeting on Monday, September 12, Highway Superintendent Herb Hasbrouck recounted some stories of the floods and destruction wrought by Hurricane Irene. He said through the morning it looked like just another heavy rainstorm but by 2 pm the devastation started. The water was two feet deep running fast down the middle of Route 2. Grafton Historical Society Presents Toys In America

The Grafton Historical Society’s September meeting will be held at the Grafton Town Hall on September 21 at 7 pm.
Our speaker will be Marilyn Sassi.  Marilyn received her BA from Russell Sage College with a major in Art History. Graduate Program at SUNY Albany in Museum Studies.  She has forty years of experience in the field of material culture has included the position of curator for several local museums and working at auction galleries, estate sales and as a local correspondent for a newspaper covering antiques.

Knitting For Novices In Grafton

This class will have techniques, projects, social networking for knitters, great books and whatever else we can fit in.  Together, we will be making dishcloths and a hat in time for holiday giving.

September 24, Saturday – Foliage Hike. Join us in this tour through the amazing autumn colors on the Rensselaer Plateau. Call (518)279-1155 to register. Free Program offered by Friends of Grafton Lakes State Park.
September 25, Sunday – 25th annual Barge Chaser Canoe and Kayak Race. Registration 9:30 am Race starts at 10:30 am. Bring a potluck dish to enjoy after the race. Barge Chaser entree fee $10, per person.
September 25, Sunday – Nature Hike at 2 pm.  Explore  the woods and learn about the wildlife, the landscape, and learn some local history. Fee is $2 per person.  Call (518)279-1155 to register.

Ingraham Takes Fourth In Air Rifle World Championships

Competing for the first time in a major event, Rick Ingraham placed fourth overall in the World Rimfire & Air Rifle Benchrest Competition at the Palmetto Gun Club in Charleston, SC, the end of July/beginning of August. Mountain Chapel Fishing Derby Winners Announced

The winners of the Mountain Chapel Fishing Derby on Aug 27 were –  1st place, Caleb Hendricks from Berlin, 2nd place, Jeffery Curtis from Petersburgh, 3rd place, Sharon Strock from Grafton. Junior Division – 1st place, Jordyn Travis, 2nd place, Nate Hendricks, 3rd place, Seth Hendricks.

Penny Social In Brunswick

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Brunswick Elks will hold their Annual Penny Social on Sunday, October 2, 2011 from 1-4 PM. Doors open at 11AM. Over 200 Prizes to be won, plus raffles for 22″ flat screen TV and a Kindle.  Door prize is a trip for 2 to Turning Stone.  Come enjoy a good time!.  The lodge is located at 665 Brunswick Road (Rt 2), Troy, NY.
