Grafton Town Board Action – Work Begins On The Budget

Grafton Supervisor Tyler Sawyer said he has been meeting with Town Department heads to  talk about the 2012 budget, in preparation for presenting a preliminary budget in September. Sawyer said he is aiming for no tax increase.

Grafton Historical Society Discusses Greywacke

The Grafton Historical Society’s August meeting will be held at the Grafton Town Hall on August 17 at 7 pm.
The speaker will David J. De Simone, Ph.D.  De Simone is a Troy native who graduated from RPI with BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees in Geology. He will present a program on the geological history of Grafton and the Rensselaer Plateau including the origins of greywacke and the influences of the last ice age.

Grafton VFD Breakfast

The Grafton Volunteer Fire Department along with the Grafton Ladies Auxiliary will be holding an All You Can Eat Buffet Breakfast on Saturday, July 30, from 8 to 11 am at the Grafton VFW – Fire Hall on South Road (County Route 85). Belgian waffles, pancakes, French toast, eggs (made to order), sausage gravy & biscuits, bacon, sausage, home fries, toast, orange juice, coffee and milk are on the menu. The cost is $8 per adult, $4 for kids 5-12 and free for kids under five.

17th Annual Poestenkill Fire Company Car Show

The 17th Annual Poestenkill Fire Company Car Show will take place on Sunday, August 14, at the Poestenkill Fire House, 182 Main Street in Poestenkill. There will be food, refreshments, vendors, door prizes and free parking, and spectators enter for free. There will be music by the K-Man.

Grafton Democrats Choose Slate

The Grafton Town Democratic Party held its caucus on Monday, August 1, and elected a full slate of candidates. Ray Darling will be the Party’s candidate for Town Supervisor, incumbent Barbara Messenger and Rick Ungaro the candidates for Town Council. Frank Higgins is the candidate for Town Justice.

Grafton’s Ingraham To Compete In World Rimfire And Air Rifle Benchrest Competition

Rick Ingraham of Grafton has been involved in Berlin school sports for years. He has coached basketball, softball, wrestling and cross country. He has given them all up except cross country. “As I get closer to retirement age I wanted to find something for me,” he said. He has been a fisherman, archer and rifleman all his life. “I’m a competitive person. I tried 10 meter Olympic style air rifle basics for two to three months, but my eyes aren’t good enough for off hand and peep sights.” That’s when he settled on Light Varmint and Heavy Varmint air rifle benchrest shooting. Grafton Quilters – Binding Friends

The Binding Friends Quilt Group meets monthly at the Everett Wagar Senior Center on Route 2 and Roxborough Road on the east end of the Town Green in Grafton. The informal group welcomes new members.
Members share quilting ideas,  show their projects, work together on quilting projects and have  quilting retreats and  non-competitive group challenges.  Quilters of any level are encouraged to join us for a meeting on the second Thursday of each month at 10 am at the Everett Wagar Senior Center.
