The Lillis Bunce Memorial Award Goes To Jamie Weir

The Grafton Community Library has announced the winner of the first annual Lillis Bunce Memorial Award. Jamie Weir will receive the award given annually to a Grafton resident who is a junior in high school and has practiced community service in one of the following areas – library/literacy, gardening/environmental or civic organizations.

Blacksmith Workshop At The Grafton Library

The Grafton Community Library is hosting an exciting introductory blacksmithing class for students with no prior experience. Our instructor is Ron Bakerian, assisted by Tim Holt. Bakerian began working in the forge as a practical approach to tool making for large scale woodwork which then developed into decorative and functional hand forged ironwork. The Grafton Volunteer Fire Department held its Annual Installation Banquet, celebrating their 67th year of service. The program began with an invocation by Pastor Jason White of the Grafton Baptist Church, before a delicious dinner of chicken or prime rib.

Grafton Planning Board Action – Wind Turbines To Keep Birds Warm

At the Grafton Planning Board meeting on Monday, May 16, five applications were submitted and accepted and two public hearings scheduled. The most interesting application was that of Peter Dubacher of the Berkshire Bird Paradise who wants to install three small wind turbines to provide supplemental power for maintaining the well known facility.

Grafton Town Board Meeting Moved To Second Monday

Grafton Supervisor Tyler F. Sawyer announced that the monthly regular Grafton Town Board meeting will be held on the second Monday each month beginning this June with the exception of the month of October, when the meeting will be held on the first Monday because of the Columbus holiday on the second Monday.

Carner, Etman, Smith V.F.W. Post #6340 Memorial Day Service

The Carner, Etman, Smith V.F.W. Post #6340 will be holding a Memorial Day service at the Memorial monument in the Grafton Town Park on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, at 3 pm. The service will include the placing of wreaths at the monument honoring our veterans. All are invited to attend this service honoring the men and women who are serving and have served this country, many by giving their lives.
The Post will selling Buddy Poppies at the Brunswick Walmart from 10 am to 2 pm on Monday, May 30.

Goats At The Grafton Library

Many delighted children and families turned out for Grafton Community Library’s program “Baby Goats Visit the Library.” Participants learned about raising dairy goats, sampled Laine’s homemade goat cheese and also met two Nigerian Dwarf “kids” owned by AnnMarie Keenan of Grafton. Celebrate National Trails Day At GLSP And Dyken Pond

National Trails Day is the perfect opportunity to help clean up local parks. On Saturday, June 4, the Friends of Grafton Lakes State Park and Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center will be hosting the Eighteenth Annual National Trails Day – the nation’s annual celebration of trails. Both parks invite volunteers of all ages to help clean up and improve trails on Saturday morning and indulge in the trail activities they enjoy most in the afternoon.
