Solar House Tour In Brunswick

Join the Rensselaer Land Trust for a solar house tour led by the owner on April 2.  The tour is scheduled from 10:30 am to 12 pm.  Learn about solar energy residential systems, including equipment, benefits, costs and the relationship with the power company. Ask an energy expert your questions. The tour is limited to 12 people. Grant Awarded To The Dyken Pond Center

The Friends of the Dyken Pond Center, Ltd. has received funding for a Rensselaer Plateau Conservation Plan through a grant from the New York State DEC Hudson River Estuary Program and the NYS Environmental Protection Fund.  The Friends of the Dyken Pond Center, Ltd. will work with the Rensselaer Plateau Alliance, Inc. to facilitate the conservation plan. The $60,000 will be matched by a minimum of $20,000 in donated services and volunteer time. More than a dozen volunteers will continue to work hard to make every dollar go as far as possible.

Summer Camp
Registration is now open for our summer nature camp for youth aged 6 – 14 at the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center. Our summer camp is officially the “Summer Outdoor Learning Adventure” or SOLA for short.  Summer camp has all the fun of kids being in the outdoors along with exploring exciting habitats, discovering amazing creatures and plants of the natural world, campfires, games and making new friends. Kids hardly realize that they are also learning ecology, science skills, creative thinking and problem solving as well!

Teresa has been growing her hair out for two years to be able to donate it to Locks of Love. Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.

Grafton Fire Department And Ladies Auxiliary Buffet Breakfast

The Grafton Volunteer Fire Department along with the Grafton Ladies Auxiliary will be holding an All You Can Eat Buffet Breakfast on Saturday, March 26, from 8 to 11 am at the Grafton VFW – Fire Hall on South Road (County Route 85) .
Belgian waffles, pancakes, French toast, eggs (made to order), sausage gravy and biscuits, bacon, sausage, home fries, toast, orange juice, coffee and milk are on the menu.
The cost is $8 per adult, $4 for kids 12 and under and free for  kids 5 and under. We look forward to serving you!

Ice Storm Made Roads Impassable, Caused Power Outages; Grafton And Hoosick Hardest Hit

Rensselaer County State Of Emergency Continues

On Monday morning, March 7, Rensselaer County Executive Kathy Jimino declared a State of Emergency in response to the ice storm that affected many portions of the County. At the start 5,000 homes and businesses were without power and many State, County, Town and Village roads were impassable. By Tuesday afternoon 2,500 homes and business were still without power, and some roads were still impassable. National Grid and New York State Electric and Gas had most power restored by late Tuesday and expected to have the rest restored Wednesday.

Ice Storm Hits Grafton Hard

Wires Down! In a familiar scene in our area an ice laden tree knocks down power lines on Taconic Lake Road in Grafton. They were still down on Tuesday, March 8. Rensselaer County Honors Two Prominent Area Families

Two prominent families from Eastern Rensselaer County came to the Rensselaer County Legislature’s meeting on Tuesday, March 8, to be presented with copies of the resolutions passed last month honoring their departed loved ones. District 5 Legislators Stan Brownell and Lester Goodermote, who represent the towns of Stephentown, Berlin, Petersburgh, Grafton, Hoosick and the Village of Hoosick Falls made the presentations.
