Grafton Lakes State Park is accepting Christmas trees for recycling after the holiday. The trees will be recycled or reused in ways that benefit the Park and the public. Please drop off trees – emptied of all decorations – to the Park’s maintenance shop between the hours of 8 am and 4:30 pm until January 16.

Grafton – Lois L. (Eaton) Gundrum, 67, cherished wife of Rynard G. Gundrum, died December 27, 2010, at Albany Medical Center Hospital as a result of being stricken with a brain aneurysm at her family business on December 15.

Major Highway Project Planned For Route 2 In Grafton

Grafton Highway Superintendent Herb Hasbrouck and Town Supervisor Allison Kirchner reported they had received a letter from the NYS Department of Transportation informing the Town that the State will begin ditching and repairing 45 small culverts on Route 2 starting in Brunswick in the spring of 2011. Work that requires diverting traffic to County Route 84 and Route 7 will be done during the school summer break. At other times there will be lane shifts with only one traffic lane open. It is believed the work will go from Brunswick to the former Grafton Elementary School.

Petersburgh And Berlin Scouts Go To Court
Boy Scout Troop 222 from Petersburgh/Berlin went to the Grafton Town Court on Tuesday, December 14, to learn more about the courts and what happens in a town court. The Scouts were given some advice by Judge Kronua. He said that he hoped that none of the scouts would ever end up in front of him or any court but if they did they should be represented by a lawyer in any legal action.

Brunswick Golf Season Pass Raffle
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Brunswick Lodge of Elks is sponsoring a raffle for a 2011 Golf Season Pass at the Brunswick Greens Golf Course on Hoosick Road in Troy. Tickets costs $5, and only 100 will be sold. They are on sale now!
This fund-raiser will help support the Ladies’ major functions including Cerebral Palsy, Clothe a Child and a host of other charities.

The pass is not applicable to league or tournament play.

Lurana Parker
Johnsonville – Lurana (Corbin) Parker, 81, passed away on December 17, 2010, at her residence on River Road in Johnsonville, NY. She had resided there with her husband Daniel T. Parker.
Born on June 2, 1929, in Troy, NY, Lurana was the daughter of the late Percil and Mary (Smith) Corbin. She graduated from Troy High School and Mary McClellan Hospital School of Nursing in Cambridge, NY. She worked at the hospital for many years. Lurana enjoyed reading and was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Johnsonville and the D.A.V. Auxiliary.
Survivors, other than her husband, include two daughters, Janice Malo of Hoosick Falls, NY, and Patricia Parker Jones of Fairhaven, VT, a son, Daniel P. Parker of Johnsonville, a sister, Mary Catherine O’Dell of Grafton, NY, and a brother, Paul Corbin of Potter Hill, Hoosick, NY. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Lurana is pre-deceased by a sister, Alice Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the care of the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Memorial contributions may be made to your local Rescue Squad or your local Fire Department in memory of Lurana.
Venerable Grafton Church Closes

Sunday, December 12, was a time of remembrance for the members of the Grafton United Methodist Church on Route 2. The church was filled to overflowing for this final service.
