Michael Drogos, Jr. graduated from the United States Marine Corps Recruit Training Depot in Parris Island, SC, on October 15. Mike was a June 2010 graduate from the Berlin Jr./Sr. High School and entered basic training on July 19. After a brief visit home, Mike will attend one month Marine combat training in North Carolina and then begin his military schooling in Quantico, Virginia, where he will study Intelligence as his military specialty field. Mike is the son of Michael Drogos, Sr. of Grafton and Heather Fry of Sand Lake, NY.

An issue that brought several people to the Grafton Town Board meeting on October 14 was a letter to the editor that appeared in the Eastwick Press regarding a certified letter sent to a member of the Grafton Rescue Squad suspending her from the Squad. Gundrums Honored At Grafton Senior Center

Joan and Gordon (Gunny) Gundrum owned the old house and land on the corner of Route 2 and Roxborough Road for many years. In ceremonies Monday, October 18, when the couple was presented with a plaque in appreciation of their donation of the property to Grafton for use as the Everett Wager Senior Center, Gundrum recalled some of the history of the old building. Map and Compass Program
Gain confidence in hiking by taking the “Basic Map and Compass” program at the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center on Saturday, October 30, from 10 am to 2 pm. This workshop will provide people with an outdoor field experience to understand the basics of interpreting topographical maps, using a compass and putting them both together to navigate off trail. Pre-registration is required and can be done by contacting dykenpond@fairpoint.net or 518-658-2055. The fee is $10 or $8 for members.

NYS Youth Snowmobile Safety Course Offered In Grafton
On Saturday, December 4, the Grafton Trail Blazers Snowmobile Club and the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will host a snowmobile safety course for young people ages 10 to 18. Students must be at least 10 years old on the day of the course. Parents are encouraged to attend and participate. Friends Of GLSP Annual Dinner And Plateau Geology Lecture
The Friends of Grafton Lakes State Park Annual Dinner and Meeting is coming up on Thursday, November 4, at 6 pm at the Grafton Inn on Route 2.
We are fortunate to have David DeSimone, local geologist and adjunct professor at RPI, sharing the topic of “The History and Environmental Geology of the Rensselaer Plateau.” It’s an incredible story that starts over 500 million years ago! The lecture will begin at approximately 7 pm.
