Friends Of Dyken Pond Seek Support For Acquisition Of Additional Parcel For Dyken Pond Center

Much of the Grafton Town Meeting was taken up by discussion of whether the Town should support an application for grant funding by the Friends of the Dyken Pond Center to pay for the purchase of an additional parcel to be held for the use and benefit of the Center. Famous Grazing, Holistic Planning Expert To Visit Eastern New York And Provide Insight To Farmers

On July 2, the Winter Green-up Committee, Cornell Cooperative Extension Albany County and Black Queen Angus Farm, LLC will host a presentation and pasture walk by famed grazier and Holistic Planning expert, Ian Mitchell-Innes.

Ian Mitchell-Innes is a South African who began high stock density grazing on his operation many years ago in an effort to take his farm into both financial profitability and ecological enhancement. The Berlin July 4th Parade Committee invites you to tell your Tall Tales with a float in the 2015 parade which kicks off at 11 am on Saturday, July 4th. Tell everyone your tallest tale and maybe even win a cash prize for doing so. There is no entry fee. The Grand Prize float is awarded $125. DEC Sporting Licenses Once Again Available At Grafton Town Hall

Sporting Licenses can once again be obtained at the Grafton Town Hall. Supervisor Frank Higgins and Secretary Joe Allain have both taken the training and passed their tests and are certified as “agents” of DEC for fishing licenses, hunting licenses and trapping licenses. Poestenkill Historical Society Presents Concert-On-The-Green

The Poestenkill Historical Society’s annual Concert-on-the-Green will be held on Tuesday, June 23 at 6:45 pm on Poestenkill’s Town Green (Library lawn).  The Whippersnappers will be playing multi-musical instruments with foot stomping, ripsnorting music and songs of the 1920’s and 1930’s.  These gentleman have played together for 30 years.  Get ready to sit back, enjoy, swing, sway, tap toes, sing along, clap hands and have fun!  All of our programs are free and the public is welcome.  Bring your own lawn chair/blanket, sit back, enjoy.  Free refreshments will also be provided and in the case of inclement weather the venue will be located in the meeting room downstairs in the Town Hall.

Annual Plant Sale & Book Sale Saturday, June 6, 9 am to 1 pm 

It’s a multi-sale event! Get some great plants to get your garden started and support the Library in the process. Proceeds from the plant sale benefit the Lillis Bunce Memorial Award for Grafton high school seniors.We’ve had lots of book donations and there are some great bargains for adults and kids alike. Paperbacks are 50 cents, Hardcovers $1. We also have CDs and DVDs. The library will gladly welcome donations of labeled, non-invasive plants during the week the sale. Plants may be dropped off at the rear of the library. Call 269-9520 with any questions about plant donations.

Digital Content at Grafton Community Library Thursday, June 11 at 5:30 pm AND Friday, June 19 at 6:30 pm. Did you know that Grafton Community Library has over 20,000 ebooks, downloadable audiobooks, and streaming video available free from anywhere for anyone with a library card? We also have a new online public access library catalog with sophisticated search capabilities that allows you to find and request library materials both print and digital from any of the 29 libraries in the Upper Hudson Library System. Find out how to get the most from this new technology at either of these two free sessions with Library Director, Christian Collins.

Summer Reading Sign-Up Begins Monday, June 15. Stop by the library any time during open hours on or after June 15 to sign up for our 2015 Summer Reading Program. This year Grafton Community Library has an Adult Summer Reading program too, so young and old alike can sign up, log their reading and qualify for prizes. Summer Reading starts on Monday June 29 and runs until August 15.

Social Media for Job Seekers – Tuesday, June 16 at 4 pm

Learn how to use Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn to optimize your online presence, make connections, search for jobs, and land the one that’s right for you. Part of Grafton Community Library’s “Skills for Job Seekers” series, presented by professional employment counselors from Rensselaer County One Stop. Please sign up in advance.

Wire Wrapped Jewelry Making Workshop – Saturday, June 27, 9:30 am to 1:30 pm. The latest in our Arts Grant funded programming, bringing high quality arts programs to Grafton at bargain rates. This class is an introduction to the centuries-old process of wrapping stones for ornamentation.

Learn basic wire wrapping techniques using sterling silver wire to create a wearable pendant. At least one pendant will be completed and ready to wear by the end of class. There is a $12 materials fee, payable at registration. Participants must register in advance.

Grafton Book Group: The Witch of Hebron by James Howard Kunstler Monday, June 29 at 7 pm.  Join the Grafton Book Group to kick off the Adult Summer Reading Program with a discussion of The Witch of Hebron by James Howard Kunstler. Set in a fictionalized version of Washington County, NY in a near future where the world has run out of oil and civilization has collapsed, Kunstler’s “World Made by Hand” series provides a gripping look at how residents of our region try to hold their world together when they are brutally thrust back into the pre-industrial age. Scrap Booking Teacher Needed

The Everett Wagar Senior Center in Grafton, is in need of a volunteer who knows some basic Scrap Booking.   This volunteer would help guide a group of seniors with some basic scrap booking techniques at the senior center.   Thank you in advance for helping the seniors in our community.  Some supplies will be included for free, for more information please call Penny at 518-279-3413.    If you are a Rensselaer County senior 60 years of age or older and are interested in learning basic scrap booking come in and check our center.

Come for a plethora of plants, local vendors, baked goods and raffles

T/ween Book Club – June 12 at 3 pm

Ages 11+ come to the library after school for a fun book discussion about all things John Green.  We will make fun key chains and DFTBA bracelets.  Did we mention there will be free pizza?

Red Cross Babysitting Course – June 13 at 10:30 am Ages 10+

Monthly Cook-Off – June 22 at 6 pm

Make your favorite Summer Salad (potato, macaroni, pasta) and bring it to the library for our monthly cook off!

Summer Reading Kick Off – June 26, 4 to 6 pm

Register your kids for the library’s summer reading program and get a free ice cream sundae!  We will also be making superhero capes!

Second Annual Let’s Move Day: Healthy Outdoor Family Activities

The Second Annual Let’s Move Day is June 27 at Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center.  This day of free activities is designed to let people try their hand at various outdoor activities and encourages everyone to get outside to try something fun or different.

This weekend coincides with New York State’s free fishing weekend. Trout Unlimited will be running a fly tying workshop, fly-casting demonstrations and a pond biodiversity assessment.  Kayaking, nature walks and geo-caching are some of the other activities led by guides.

Healthy, light snacks and refreshments will be available all day.  Let’s Move Day will take place in two different sessions, the first from 10:30 am to Noon, the second from 12:30 to 2 pm.
