Brunswick Historical Society Annual Tag And Bake Sale

The Brunswick Historical Society will sponsor its annual tag and bake sale on Saturday, September 6, from 9 am to 3 pm at its headquarters in the Garfield School, 605 Brunswick Road (Rt. 2) in Eagle Mills.

You may reserve an 8’x10’ space for the tag sale for $20 by calling the Society at 279-4024 for a contract. This event will be held rain or shine.

There will be an antique quilt raffle and homemade baked goods. Entertainment will be provided by the Hill Country Cloggers at 1 pm. Lunch will be available throughout the day. Join us for a day of fun and great shopping.

Grafton VFD And Ladies Auxiliary Breakfast

The Grafton Volunteer Fire Department along with the Grafton Ladies Auxiliary will be serving an All You Can Eat Buffet Breakfast on Saturday, August 30, from 8 to 11 am at the Grafton VFW – Fire Hall on South Road (County Route 85). Belgian waffles, pancakes, French toast, eggs (made to order), sausage gravy & biscuits, bacon, sausage, home fries, toast, orange juice, coffee and milk are on the menu.

The cost is $9 per adult, $4 for kids 12 and under and free for kids five and under.

We look forward to serving you!

Sullivan-Jones VFW Post Buffet Breakfast

The Sullivan-Jones VFW Post in Poestenkill will be holding its monthly buffet breakfast on Sunday, August 10, from 8 to 11 am. The buffet includes eggs, home fries, sausage, bacon, pancakes, French toast sticks, fruit, coffee, tea, juice…etc. Come enjoy good food without the clean up.

Charles Farrell Named To The Marist College Dean’s List For The Spring 2014 Semester

Charles Farrell of Grafton, a member of the Class of 2016, has been named to the Marist College Dean’s List for the Spring 2014 semester.

Marist is an independent comprehensive liberal arts college with an enrollment of 4,700 full time undergraduate students. Founded in 1929, the College offers 44 major fields of undergraduate study and 12 graduate degree programs. Marist is included in the Princeton Review’s 2013 guide to the top colleges and universities in the U.S., The Best 377 Colleges.

Marist is also ranked tenth in the northern United States in U.S. News & World Report’s 2013 “Best Colleges” guide and is listed by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance as one of the best values in private colleges and universities.

Not A Missing Lynx At The Grafton Library

Wildlife educator Bernadette Hoffman presented a fascinating program on Saturday morning, July 26, behind the Grafton Library. Folks of all ages listened as Hoffman described the pelts she had of two red foxes. One was the usual red while the other was almost black, with gray in it. Both were red foxes. She also showed everyone the head of an alligator, noting that the size of the head from eyes to snout gave an estimate of the length of the creature. She estimated that one to be nine feet long at one time.

Grafton Historic Marker Dedicated

Saturday morning, July 26, was pleasant and sunny. It was a perfect day for dedicating Grafton’s first historic marker. Many people turned out, including NYS Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin, Rensselaer County Executive Kathy Jimino and Rensselaer County Legislator Stan Brownell as well as Town officials and members of the Grafton Historical Society. Behind the crowd stood the stately building described on the marker.

The Grafton Library Presents Ready, Set, Reaction! A Chemistry Program for Kids

On Monday, August 4, at 10 am, the Grafton Community Library will present an exciting, free program at the Grafton VFW Firehall on CR 85 that will give kids a chance to learn all about physical and chemical reactions while getting hands on with chemistry.

What is a reaction? Kids will find out as they blow up balloons, create rockets out of film canisters and heat things up! The program will be led by experts from the CNSE Children’s Museum of Science & Technology and is geared for ages seven and up.
