Hoosick Grange had a short business meeting before the lecturer’s program.

Last week Martha Babbitt went to the New York State Grange Convention in Auburn, NY. Martha gave us a brief report of the meeting. Pedestrian Killed By Drunk Driver On River Street In Hoosick Falls

On Saturday night, October 24, tragedy struck Hoosick Falls. Kyle Redden, a 22 year-old resident of Hoosick Falls and Class of 2011 HFCS graduate, was struck and killed by a drunk driver as he was walking home from a party. Redden was taken to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center by the Hoosick Falls Rescue Squad. He died at the hospital. Town Pool, New Trucks And Revaluation Payments Included In Hoosick’s 2016 Budget

Increase Is 5.939% Over Last Year

The preliminary Town of Hoosick Budget for 2016 calls for a 5.939% budget increase (not tax increase) over the 2015 budget. This does not mean that every property owner will be paying 5.939% more taxes next year, which is calculated differently. Property taxes are calculated per $1000 of the assessed property value. Sticking to the NY State mandatory tax cap of 0.73% this year would have meant that spending could only increase by $10,000. Bowling For HF St. Patrick’s Day Anniversary Parade

The Hoosick Falls St. Patrick’s Parade is celebrating its 25th anniversary in March and fundraising efforts are underway to make it a special event.

HACA does many things, but perhaps the most important thing is running the Food Pantry. And it can’t do it without the many volunteers and supporters from the local churches and the community. These volunteers work countless hours unloading truckloads of food and supplies, sorting goods and stocking shelves, filling orders for clients, doing income taxes for free, keeping the HACA building clean and spruced up inside and out, and more.
