Hoosick Falls

Richard Lefebvre

Hoosick Falls – Richard P. Lefebvre, 80, died on Tuesday morning May 12, 2015, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, Vermont. He resided on Hurley Street in Hoosick Falls, NY with his wife Pauline Lefebvre.

Richard was born on January 27, 1935, in Waterbury, Vermont, son of the late Francis and Cecile M. (Philippon) Lefebvre. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of the Sargents Association. Richard served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church. Richard, for many years, delivered the Bennington Banner and the Troy Record throughout the area.

Survivors other than his wife Pauline include his five daughters Angela F. Nichols of Norfolk,VA, Brenda M. Davies, San Antonio, TX, Cynthia M. Henry, Manchester, VT, Diane T. Lefebvre, Buskirk, NY, Erica A. Lefebvre, Bennington, VT and one son Michael R. Lefebvre of Hoosick Falls, NY. Richard is also survived by a brother Donald Lefebvre of Swanton, VT and a sister Frances Ruggles of Morrisville, VT as well as 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, Roger Lefebvre.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday May 16 at 10 am from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY. Burial will follow the mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.

Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls,NY on Saturday from 8 to 9:30 am. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hoosick Area Church Association or the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the funeral home.

Hoosick Celebrated Earth Day 2015 All Week, All Around The Town

Earth Day was Earth Week in Hoosick. All of the local schools as well as HAYC3 celebrated by doing something to help clean up the town and village, and to raise awareness of environmental issues, of the importance of recycling and reusing, and of ways every individual can contribute to creating a heathier planet and community.

Twenty-One Ambulance Drivers Took The “Train The Trainer” Program

Twenty one veteran rescue squad drivers met in Hoosick Falls on the weekend of April 18 and 19 to take a VFIS (Volunteer Firemen’s Insurance Servces) train-the-trainer course. The purpose of the program is to train local instructors to teach safe emergency vehicle operation back at their home stations. Some of the participants came from three hours away to take this course, which was offered by VFIS and the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad.

Pawparazza Dog Grooming Business Opens In HAYC3 Armory

It’s not work if you love what you do. And that is the attitude Vanessa Lewis has about pet grooming and/or photography. Vanessa is a 2002 graduate of HFCS. She and her husband Philip lived in North Carolina for six years. “I wanted to come home,” she said. And last June they returned to her home town. “I’m very glad to be back,” she said. “I love Hoosick Falls.”

Battenkill Chorale Shares World Travels Through Song

Janet McGhee, Founding Artistic Director of the Battenkill Chorale is passionate about singing, and especially so about singing with and leading the Battenkill Chorale. It was apparent when she spoke to the audience and introduced each number at the ensemble’s concert at Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls. The practice time the singers had put in, their dedication to and love of their art were apparent during their performances last weekend.

HACA Pantry Loses Bread Donor, And Finds A New One

Two Tuesdays ago, the Hoosick Falls Food Pantry thought they would be suffering a severe shortage of bread. This was due to the unexpected closing of the Freihoffer’s bakery outlet in Troy that had been supplying bread to the pantry for more than six years.

Program On Ticks At Cheney Library

Jennifer Mahoney, Senior Public Health Educator from the Rensselaer County Department of Health will provide information and discussion about ticks and the illnesses associated with tick bites in the capital region. The presentation will cover:  general identification of ticks, tick removal, lyme disease, signs, symptoms, treatment, other tick borne illnesses, and prevention.

This will be an informative presentation at Cheney Library on Wednesday, May 13 at 6:30 pm. Please be sure to come before the tick season gets underway.
