HAYC3 Offers New Workshop On Chakras

HAYC3 is pleased to announce a new workshop in its Wellness Series.  A Chakra Workshop titled ‚”Energy Centers: An Introduction to the Chakra System.‚”  Chakras are the seven life-force energy centers. Each one is associated with the body organs, endocrine system and aspects of human behavior and development. We will talk about the essence of each Chakra and how it affects our physical, mental and spiritual health and explore ways that will suite the individual to clear the blocks and open the energy flow.

The workshop will be held on three Tuesdays, February 10, 17 and 24, from 7 to 8 pm. The workshop will take place downstairs in The Keep. The cost for each workshop is $10 and RSVP is required.

Endicott College Dean’s List

Endicott College in Beverly, Mass. is pleased to announce the Dean’s List students for fall, 2014.  In order to qualify for the Dean’s List, a student must obtain a minimum grade point average of 3.5, receive no grade below a “C”, have no withdrawal grades, and be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits for the semester.

The following students have met those requirements:

Ayla Marie Gee Graney is the daughter of Bernie and Cathy Graney of Hoosick Falls, NY.  Ayla is a Senior majoring in Visual Communications.

HACA Free Tax Service Opens February 7

The Hoosick Area Church Association (HACA), for the eleventh year, is offering free assistance to the public in preparing income tax returns through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance or VITA program. The VITA site is located at the HACA Center at 26 John Street, Hoosick Falls. The office will be open each Saturday beginning February 7, from 10 am to 3 pm and on Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 through February. In March and April offices will be open on Saturdays from 10 am to 1 pm, and on Thursday evenings by appointment. Office hours have been scheduled for evenings and weekends to accommodate people who find it difficult to take time off from work.  The service is free and is provided by IRS Certified VITA/TCE Volunteer Preparers. To help accurately prepare their returns, taxpayers should bring the following:

• Photo identification

• Valid Social Security cards for the taxpayer, spouse, and dependents

• Birth dates for primary, secondary and dependents on the tax return

• Current year’s tax package, if received

• Wage and earning statement(s) Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, from all employers

• Interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099)

• A copy of last year’s federal and state returns, if available

• Bank routing numbers and account numbers for direct deposit

• Other relevant information about income and expenses

• Total paid for day care

• Day care provider’s identifying number.

Volunteer positions at the site such as reception, filing, photo copying, or hostess are also available.

The VITA program offers free assistance to those with low-to-middle incomes (wage earners who make $55,000 or less) who file Form 1040EZ, Form 1040A, or a basic 1040 Federal tax return. Most returns for both Federal and State (including Vermont and Massachusetts) can be filed electronically and, upon request, refunds can be deposited electronically into a checking or savings account.

David J. Morin

Hoosick Falls – David J. Morin 64, passed away on Tuesday January 20, at the Wyoming Community Hospital, in Warsaw, New York. He resided in Sonyea, New York.

David was born on August 21, 1950 in Troy, New York, son of the late George and Elaine (Doney) Morin. David graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls and formerly worked at Oak Mitsui in Hoosick Falls.

Survivors include his son Sean Morin of Bennington, VT, brothers James Morin of Pownal, VT, Steven and his wife Margaret Morin of New Hampshire and Ronald and his wife Helen Morin of California.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday February 7, at 11 am at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls, New York. Arrangements are under the care of the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, New York. Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation through the funeral home.

New Officers Installed At Hoosick Falls Fire Department

The Hoosick Falls Fire Department has served the community for 167 years. On Saturday, January 24, officers were installed at the Annual Banquet. A scrumptious dinner was served by Jean’s Place. Outgoing Chief Robert Bornt was Master of Ceremony. Rev. Dale Hall gave the Invocation that included a moment of silence for all deceased members, and the Benediction. Music was provided by Matt Shaw.

Blood Drive On February 6 In Hoosick Falls

The Red Cross’ first 2015 community blood drive in Hoosick Falls will be held at Hoosick Falls First Baptist Church at 80 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, on Friday, February 6, from 1 to 6 pm.

Hoosick has Heart has set its goal at 500 units again this year for all drives in the Town of Hoosick, including community, school and business.

Support The Center For Nursing And Rehabilitation This Valentine’s Day

The Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation Foundation (The Health Center) is playing cupid this Valentine’s Day. The Center’s Foundation will be selling premium red roses and fine milk chocolate covered strawberries to raise funds for the foundation. “It’s a win-win! Treat your Valentine to beautiful red roses or delicious milk chocolate covered strawberries while supporting a local non-profit organization,” said Joyce Davis, Foundation Board President.

The community is encouraged to order at Artistic Hair Designs, Hoosick True Value, Maggie’s Beauty Shop and Thorpe’s Pharmacy. Milk chocolate covered strawberries start at $10 a box and red roses range from $20 to $50, and you can choose to include a card. The $50 packages include a combination of milk chocolate covered strawberries, a card and premium red roses.

Pick-up will be at 43 Church Street (the former Goober’s Pizza) on Friday, February 13, from 3 to 6 pm or Saturday, February 14, from 9 am to 1 pm. Street parking will be readily available as well as parking in the lot across the street.

Winter Warm-Up Cooking Classes Scheduled At HAYC3’s Hoosick Kitchen

Warm-Up in February with our Adult Cooking Class: Soup, Soup, Soup! Taught by local Chef, Kelly O’Connor, this hands-on culinary class will be held on February 24 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in our certified kitchen.  The Hoosick Kitchen is located downstairs in the HAYC3 Armory at 80 Church Street. This class will spotlight some new twists on old favorites and a few new flavors you might not have thought of.  Participants will sample and take home the soups that they prepared in class. (Please bring three containers.) The cost of this class (including supplies) is $15.

Little Sweetie Baking Class

The Little Sweetie Baking Class is designed for our young bakers from ages 8 to 12. This class will teach our younger chefs baking skills, perfect for Valentine’s Day. The class will be held on Friday, February 6, from 4 to 5:30 pm. Participants will take home a gift bag of goodies. The cost for the class is $10 and is limited to ten participants.
