Pay it Forward

August 1, 2014 By eastwickpress

submitted by Gail Smith

Last week, the American Red Cross went out on National Appeal, which means there is not enough blood in the system to meet the anticipated needs. You can help change that. Hoosick Falls’ next community blood drive takes place on Saturday, August 9, from 8 am to 1 pm at the H.F. Community Alliance Church, 484 Hill Road.

With people on vacation, we aren’t getting the response we usually get when we place phone calls, so new donors are needed to help fill those gaps. We would like to suggest that all eligible donors pay it forward, whether you’re a first-timer or if you’ve given gallons of blood before. Think of one or more people you can donate in memory of, or in honor of, and we’ll put their names on hearts and plaster the wall with them. Another way you can help is by telling a friend of the dire need and personally inviting them to make an appointment, or stop in to donate.

The Red Cross is offering 2 incentives on August 9. All presenting donors will receive a free T-shirt plus a $2.50 coupon for Turkey Hill Ice Cream, and we’ll also be serving Weeb’s doughnut holes at the canteen. But more importantly than all of that, you’ll help narrow the margin between what is available and the anticipated need.

To make your appointment, call 1-800-red-cross, go to redcrossblood.org or, if you’d like more information, contact Gail at 686-3269. Walk-ins are welcome.
