Village Of Hoosick Falls Board Action – Shared Services Agreements Approved

May 23, 2014 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson

At the Hoosick Falls Village Board meeting on Tuesday, May 13, the Board approved three Shared Services Agreements with the Town of Hoosick. Mayor David Borge said two of the agreements have been in place for years. However, they have been verbal “gentlemen’s agreements.” Keeping in mind Governor Cuomo’s desire for communities to share services, with the possibility of tax rebates, said Borge, it is important these agreements be more formal. The third agreement involves Green Heights and all those outside the Village who use Village water. The three agreements have been reviewed and approved by Village Attorney John Patterson.

HFCS Student Council Sponsors Two Blood Drives

May 23, 2014 By eastwickpress

by Gail Smith

On Thursday, May 29, the HFCS Student Council, under the leadership of Mrs. Deb Mabey, will sponsor a blood drive at HFCS from 8 am to 1:30 pm. This is not just for those who work or attend school at HFCS but is open to anyone who meets the criteria.

HFCS competes with all the schools in the Capital District for money for the Scholarship Fund. Schools have to meet a quota of units of blood donated, and the more they exceed it, the more money they earn. HFCS’ goal for the year is 200 pints in two drives, but they fell considerably short in the fall, so let’s help them make up those units so they can receive that Scholarship Fund.

The Student Council has also stepped up to the plate and is sponsoring a community blood drive on Friday, June 6 from 1 to 6 pm at the Hoosick Falls Fire Department. Previously, this drive did not have a sponsor. Thank you, students!

Cheney Library Open House

May 23, 2014 By eastwickpress

Cheney Library in Hoosick Falls will host an Open House on May 31 at 10 am to celebrate the renovation of a basement room into a beautiful and fun Children’s Room. Eric Amidon, of Stateline Builders,  worked through the winter months to insulate the outside walls, install new wiring, put up wallboard, paint, lay a new floor, install new light fixtures and build bookcases to house the Library’s collection of children’s books. He did a wonderful job, and the children who have used the room love it. There is a new rug for story time, a sitting corner, a wall mural painted by college student Emma Fricke, two puppet theaters with puppets and some new educational toys purchased with money from a grant.

Please come and celebrate with us at 10 am on May 31 at the Cheney Library. The Cheney Library is open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 1 to 8 pm, Tuesday from 10 am to 5 pm, Friday from 11 am to 4 pm and Saturday from 8 am to 1 pm.
