Kevin McGuire In ‘Broadway And Beyond’ Concert
Kevin McGuire, the founding Artistic Director of The Theatre Company at Hubbard Hall (TCHH), returns to the area in “Broadway and Beyond,” a one night only concert on Saturday, April 23, at 8 pm at Hubbard Hall. McGuire will be joined by The Richard Cherry Trio, including accompanist Richard Cherry, Richard LaPlante on drums and Tim Patrick on bass.
McGuire, who is directing TCHH’s spring production of Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along (May 12 – June 4), will perform classic Broadway show tunes as well as contemporary pop selections.
Prior to establishing The Theatre Company at Hubbard Hall as one of the region’s finest and most acclaimed theatre troupes, McGuire enjoyed a celebrated career in musical theater, playing lead roles on Broadway, and in national and international tours of Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera, Jane Eyre and The Secret Garden.

Fire In Church Street Pizzeria

The Hoosick Falls Fire Department responded to a call at 59 Church Street at 11:50 Thursday night, April 7. “When we arrived there was a working fire downstairs near the pizza oven,” said Hoosick Falls Fire Chief Robert Bornt. The fire had also worked its way into the wall. “We had it knocked down in the first 45 minutes,” he said. The building is old. It has no fire stops, some false ceilings and walls covering walls.

Village Of Hoosick Falls Board Meeting – No Tax Increase

Mayor Matt Monahan reported that the Village will take $56,000 from the fund balance allowing a zero percent increase in the 2011-2012 budget. He said he recently learned the Village will receive a full $90,000 from the State’s CHIPS fund. He added that retirement funds have increased by $21,000 and he expects insurance premiums to be up 10 percent. He said the sewer and water rates will be the same.
The budget hearing and organizational meeting will be Tuesday, April 19, at 6 pm.

Rensselaer County Legislature – Panther Bowlers Honored

Three bowlers and two coaches of the Hoosick Falls High School Championship Bowling Team appeared in the well of the Rensselaer County Legislature to receive copies of the resolution passed last month honoring the team for its achievements last season. Lions Penny Hunt Is This Saturday
The Town of Hoosick Lions will be holding their annual Penny Hunt at Wood Memorial Park this Saturday, April 16, at 1 pm. In case of rain, the event will be held the following Saturday. As always, the Easter Bunny will make an appearance. The Penny Hunt has been held since 1961 and is now seeing it’s third generation of children.
Horseshoe League Meeting
There will be a horseshoe league meeting on April 19 at 7 pm at the Barbecue recreation bowling lanes. Anyone who cannot attend but is interested in shooting please call Jack at 518-686-5751.
Crohn’s Fund-Raiser
There will be a pancake breakfast on Sunday, April 17, at the Hoosick Falls Firehouse to support Julie Hathaway and her “Walk For Crohn’s.” Serving is from 7 am until noon.
