Rock A Cake For Rock the Block

Hoosick community members are invited to Rock a Cake for the Rock the Block community party taking place on Wednesday, August 3.
A free and open event, Rock the Block will take place on Main Street at 6:30 pm and feature a free chicken barbecue (while supplies last), chalk art drawing (starting at 4 pm), live music, and more.
Nine-inch by eleven-inch sheet cakes will be available for pick up on Monday, August 1. Community members are invited to take one home and decorate it in a style that celebrates Hoosick and bring their “Hoosick Cake” to the party on Wednesday.

Tractor Show Planned For Oct. 1

The 2016 Walter A. Wood Tractor and Agriculture Show is looking for vendors, tractors, hit and miss engines, horse drawn farm equipment, agricultural products and livestock.

HFCS Hosts PFOA Session With Senator Gillibrand

The Hoosick Falls Central School hosted a visit from U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand which was billed as a listening session. A series of Hoosick Falls and Petersburgh residents told stories of the impact on their lives of learning that the water they had been drinking for years is contaminated with PFOA and that they have elevated levels of PFOA in their blood. Gillibrand was visibly moved by the stories being told. She said, “The most important thing I can do today is listen to these devastating stories,” and vowed to impress on her colleagues in Washington and in Albany the gravity of the situation in Rensselaer County. Hoosac School Suggests Ice Rink Partnership With Town

Supervisor Surdam told the Board that Hoosac School has made an informal offer to pay a fairly large sum of money each year to the Town for use of the Town ice rink if it were brought up to standards that would support their Hockey Program. The standards that were briefly discussed were being able to provide ice (refrigeration), 4 locker rooms and regulation hockey boards. Hoosac School has developed a very successful hockey program for both boys and girls and would like to have access to the Town rink as home ice. Hoosick Falls Central School Holds Its Organizational Meeting

The Hoosick Falls School Board held its organizational meeting on July 7. Greg Laurin was elected President of the Board of Education for another year, and John Helft was elected as Vice-President.
