The Hoosick Hootenanny was successful in raising much needed funds for The Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, Hoosick Falls. The event was sponsored by the The Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports the Center in numerous ways. Funds raised at The Hootenanny will help the Center with necessary upgrades and the purchase of new beds and equipment, among other things. Board Adopts Preliminary 2016 Budget, Shows Tax Increase Of Just Under 6%
Budget-Related Public Hearings Set For October 22 And November 5

At its meeting on Thursday, October 15, the Hoosick Town Board passed a motion to adopt the 2016 Preliminary Budget, which will exceed the property tax cap instituted by New York State. It was not feasible to stay under the tax cap for the upcoming year because the Town will begin paying off a bond incurred for the work on the pool, will be purchasing two trucks (one new, one used) for the Highway Department, and will begin setting aside funds this year for the cost of a property revaluation. Engineer’s Report: Village Highway Garage Needs Work;
American House Demolition Process Moving Forward

An engineering report on the Highway Garage recently received from an independent engineer indicated that it needs significant work. Two proposals were offered, one that involves repairing the old garage (at a cost of about $900,000), and another in which the building would be torn down and a new one built ($1,000,000). Mayor David Borge said that they would be looking for grant money to do this project when the time comes. “The discussion about which option makes the most sense and how the Village should proceed will be on next month’s agenda,” the mayor said.
