Public Archaeology & Volunteering Day At Bennington Battlefield
On Saturday, October 24 a Public Archaeology Day will be held at the Bennington Battlefield State Historic Site in Walloomsac, NY off Route 67. The event is open to the general public and free of charge. Consultants with Commonwealth Cultural Resources Group, Inc. and NYS Parks employees will be on hand to share the history of the battle, provide demonstrations of both metal detecting and ground penetrating radar equipment as well as to discuss the future of the site. The Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation (formerly Hoosick Falls Health Center) Foundation presents Hoosick Hootenanny! Join the celebration of local flavors on October 17 from 3 pm to 8 pm at the Town of Hoosick Park. The Hootenanny will feature a local, honest ingredient meal, craft beer, wine, cider, music, tastings and products found in our own backyard. Hoosick Rising Continues To Move Forward; Multiple Projects Are Well Under Way

Hoosick Rising was busy this summer. The website (hoosickrising.org) has been updated with many community links. Bouncelinx, with the help of the Hoosick Local Development Corporation, is moving forward with their project on the Knapp property off Bovie Hill Road, which will bring high-speed internet to the Hoosick community. Little Sprouts, the baby goods store on Church Street is doing well and the “new” Bagel and Brew on Elm Street has been very successful. A new healthy living business, Moms on a Mission to End the Trend is doing nicely in its home at The Armory. Rensselaer Land Trust Opens Kinderhook Creek Nature Preserve In Nassau
Over 100 people attended the Kinderhook Creek Nature Preserve evergreen garland cutting ceremony including Mike Moore from the Governors Office, David Fleming, Jr. Supervisor for the Town of Nassau, and Mitch Levinn Mayor for the Village of East Nassau. The 73 acre nature preserve was created from land donations from four neighbors: David and Lucy Gaskell, Bob and Jennifer Newton, the late Kenneth York, and the Edward W. Golden Foundation. A colorful and energetic depiction of local farm life, an art sale not to be missed!
For 25 years the Agricultural Stewardship Association has worked to accomplish a singular mission: protect the farms, the rich soils and agricultural landscape in Washington and Rensselaer counties for generations to come. In that time we’ve managed to conserve 101 farms and over 16,000 acres! For the last 14 years a significant source of funding for this mission has come from Landscapes for Landsake Art Sale and Exhibition, a celebration of the land by the community of local artists.
