Approximately 140 alumni and guests attended the 34th Annual Walter A Wood Alumni Reunion on Saturday, July 13 at the Pittstown Volunteer Emergency Corp. Master of Ceremonies, Ronald Seifert, was introduced by Janice Tate, who welcomed the group and led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Malcolm Brownell delivered the Invocation. Saint Gobain Undertaking Soil And Water Testing
At the Hoosick Falls Village Board meeting on Tuesday, July 14, Mayor David Borge stated that since November 2014 the Village has taken a steady approach to a pilot study of Perfluorooctanic Acid (PFOA) in the water supply. “There is a filter system that will remove the PFOA,” he said. The filters last from 10 to 12 months. Total cost to install the filtering system is estimated to be $2.2 million. “An accurate engineering report is critical,” Borge added. New York State has a current budget of $200 million to help with these costs. The MRB Group is pursuing state and federal grants on behalf of the Village. “New York State is testing water samples for us,” said Borge. “Rensselaer County is establishing a grid, and we have an advisory group working on this.” [Read more…] about Hoosick Falls Village Board Action

A 34 year old man and his son narrowly escaped serious injury Sunday evening when a large tree split and fell onto their pickup truck, just missing the cab. The truck sustained extensive damage from the split of the tree, which was approximately 16 – 20 inches in diameter where it came into contact with the truck. The Rensselaer County Health Department is urging residents to take precautions to prevent exposure to tick borne diseases including Lyme, Anaplasmosis, and Babesiosis.
The warning stems from a significant increase in the number of cases of Anaplasmosis found in Rensselaer County in 2015 particularly in the Hoosick Falls/Petersburgh region.
