Junior TOH Rescue Squad Unit Helps At Armory Event

Members of the Junior Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad, including Taylor Flohr, Olivia O’Connel and Anna Brewer measured the blood pressure of people who stopped by their table at the Armory on Saturday, April 25. Other members of the Junior group are Makala Sonnett, Fallon Parker, Jayde Tutunjian and Bernard Davock.

Hoosick GOP Annual Spring Giffy’s Chicken BBQ

The Town of Hoosick Republican Committee will host its annual spring Giffy’s Chicken BBQ on Thursday, May 21 at Liporace’s old Getty station on Rte 22 near Blue Flame Gas.  Meal consists of a half BBQ chicken, with baked potato, cole slaw, beverage and dessert.  Pick up is from 4 to 6 pm.  Cost is $12 a meal or $8 for chicken only.

Get a ticket by contacting any committee member, or call Cindy at 518-322-8685 to reserve tickets. There will be a limited number of tickets available, so call now.

Brown’s Cup: Wait ’Til Next Year

While the fish may be biting, the Brown’s Cup Annual Trout Fishing Tournament planned for Saturday, May 16 at the Walloomsac Brewery will be cancelled this year. Brown’s apologizes to all anglers but plans are already underway for the event next year in May. The trout dinner will also be cancelled. The tournament registration fees and dinner tickets already purchased will be refunded. Keep fishing and please join us next year. Arthur J. Hess

Pittstown – Arthur J. Hess 94, passed away on Friday February 27, 2015 at the Bennington Health & Rehab Center. He was the husband of the late Kathleen (Rushia) Hess, who passed away in 2012. They were married for sixty-eight years.

Arthur was born on October 14, 1920, in Springfield, Illinois, son of Albert and Rosa (Hoff) Hess. He attended Troy High and Hudson Valley Technical School. Arthur was a veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1943-1946. He was employed at the Watervliet Arsenal where he worked on projects with the space program, involving the re-entry space nose cone. He was a member of Victor Masonic Lodge in Schaghticoke, New York, Pittstown Planning Board, Pittstown Historical Society, 4-H Leader, Rensselaer County Agricultural Society and a director of the Maverick Drum & Bugle Corp.

Survivors include his daughters Connie (John) Gilbert, Kathy Hess-Reneau, Debbie Hess and Joyce (Arthur) Parmelee, son Bill (Sue) Spain, also seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by two brothers Albert and William Hess.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center, 43 New Scotland Avenue, Mail Code 119, Albany, NY, 12208.

The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vermont for all the care they gave to Arthur.

Celebration of Art Hess’s Life will be at the Victor Lodge Masonic Temple in Schaghticoke, May 23, 2015 from 2:00-4:00 p.m.  Attendees are welcome to bring written personal stories of their memories of Art.

Gregg Pirie Achieves Eagle Scout Rank

Gregg Pirie, a 2014 graduate of Hoosick Falls Central School and a freshman at Paul Smith College was home on break to receive his Eagle Scout Award on Sunday, April 11. The long awaited ceremony was held at the Community Alliance Church. Gregg is a member of Hoosick Falls Boy Scout Troop 63.

Reid Crobok Receives Eagle Scout Award

On Sunday evening, April 11, Reid Michael Crobok of Troop 65 received his Eagle Scout Award in a ceremony at the Hoosick Falls First Baptist Church. A part of the ceremony was the lighting of candles describing the Eagle trail.
