The annual Hoosick Falls Kiwanis Autism Walk took place on Saturday, May 2, starting and ending at the HAYC3 Armory. Goals for the walk are to raise awareness of the rise in autism rates, to try to erase the stigma that is attached to the disorder, and to raise funds for research.

HAYC3 begins its new series with a free lecture: Happiness Is: Finding Your Purpose And Following Your Passion.
Imagine saying yes to the dreams that live in your heart and soul. How would your life be different if you knew exactly what your greatest gifts are and you could spend your time sharing them? What if you could find a way to do what you love? In this free talk solo-preneur mentor and master teacher Jeannie Thomma shares the mindset, heartset and skillset required to create a life (personal and professional) that is infused with happiness.
The lecture will be held on Thursday, May 14 at 7 pm in a room on the second floor.

Hoosick Grange News

Hoosick Grange had its regular meeting on April 22. Master David Comell presided over the business meeting. The charter was draped for Robert Bentley who died in January. Marion Cipperly was recognized tor seventy years of service to the Grange. She told us about the time she joined and how she met her future husband.
After the business meeting the lecturer was in charge of the program. She told about many good things that happen in April.April is Safe Digging Month, and April 5 was Easter Sunday, when we celebrate Jesus rising from the dead. She had a story about Easter. April is also Yogurt Month and what a delicious snack it is. It provides calcium and phosphorus for bone health and essential nutrients tor your body.
April is Poetry Month. The lecturer read a poem she wrote titled “Seeing Double” about two black crows. April 15 was Tax Day, and we had a joke on that. April 22 was Earth Day, and how we need to protect our environment and conserve open spaces. She read about different states and what they are doing for Earth Day. South Carolina is bucking the trend of aging American farmers near Charleston. It offers a three year training program for aspiring farmers.
The Grange had the Masonic Dinner on April 25 and it went well. On May 6 Rensselaer County Pomona met at Hoosick Grange, with a covered dish supper at 7 pm. Hoosick Grange will meet on May 13 at 8 pm. Martha Babbitt is in charge of the program and Burta Burr is in charge of refreshments.
HACA Pantry Loses Bread Donor, And Finds A New One

Two Tuesdays ago, the Hoosick Falls Food Pantry thought they would be suffering a severe shortage of bread. This was due to the unexpected closing of the Freihoffer’s bakery outlet in Troy that had been supplying bread to the pantry for more than six years.

Program On Ticks At Cheney Library
Jennifer Mahoney, Senior Public Health Educator from the Rensselaer County Department of Health will provide information and discussion about ticks and the illnesses associated with tick bites in the capital region. The presentation will cover: general identification of ticks, tick removal, lyme disease, signs, symptoms, treatment, other tick borne illnesses, and prevention.
This will be an informative presentation at Cheney Library on Wednesday, May 13 at 6:30 pm. Please be sure to come before the tick season gets underway.

West Hoosick F.D. Mothers Day Pancake Breakfast
The West Hoosick Fire Dept. announces an “All You Can Eat” Mothers Day Breakfast at the firehouse on Sunday May 10, from 7:30 to 11 am. The menu includes pancakes, French toast, eggs, sausage, bacon, toast, juice, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. Start Mothers Day off right with a great breakfast. The firehouse is located on PineValley Rd. near the intersection of County Routes 109 and 103. Any questions please call the firehouse at 686-1814.
North Hoosick FD Dance
The North Hoosick Fire Department will sponsor an older Kids Dance on Friday, May 8 from 7 to 10 pm at the firehouse on Rt. 22. Students in grades 7, 8, 9 and 10, who attend Hoosick Falls Central, Cambridge Central, or St. Mary’s Academy, are invited to this dance. Students must be signed out by a parent or a guardian after the dance.
Louis Miller Museum To Be Open Second Saturdays May To September
Starting Saturday, May 9, The Louis Miller Museum will be open on the second Saturday of each month through September 12. Come visit between 10 am and 2 pm and discover Hoosick’s history up-close and personal.
Volunteer docents will be happy to take you on a tour, or you can wander on your own. Enjoy exhibits about the Walter A. Wood years, the Victorian Parlor, Grandma Moses memorabilia and art, school histories (we have tons of photos, come find your classmates), the Military Room, wedding dresses and fashions from times gone by.
The museum is a treasure trove of information, objects and stories about Hoosick’s rich past. The Museum is located at 166 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Museum hours are Mondays and Tuesdays (year round) 1 to 4 pm, and Second Saturdays (May-September) from 10 am to 2 pm, and by appointment. Pittstown Volunteer Emergency Corps Craft Fair
The craft fair will be held at the Pittstown Squad House, 60 Parker School Road in Johnsonville on Sunday May 31, from noon to 4 pm.
The hall will be filled with crafters and vendors.Come find a hand-crafted treasure!
It will be an indoor event so it will be held rain or shine. The Corps will be selling hot dogs and hamburgers for lunch.
