Shuffle up and deal at the Texas Hold’em Tournament at The Armory in Hoosick Falls on Friday, February 7. Get in on the most exciting Texas Hold’em tourney in the area on the very first Friday of every month. Doors open at 6 pm and play starts at 6:30 pm. The buy-in is $35.00 with an option for a $10 add on, plus a $  high hand pot. Newcomers and experienced players are all welcome. The Armory is at 80 Church Street in Hoosick Falls.

The Cheney Library in Hoosick Falls will have a Book Sale on February 1 from 8 am to 1 pm in the Library. All books will be half price, which means paperbacks will be 25 cents and hardcovers will be 50 cents. This is a great time to get some reading material for these cold winter days or to anticipate reading on the beach in summer.

The Cheney Library is located on Classic Street at the foot of NY 22 South in the Village of Hoosick Falls. Our hours are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 1 to 8 pm, Tuesday 10 am to 5 pm, Friday 11 am to 4 pm and Saturday 8 am to 1 pm.

This Saturday, February 1, is Minks to Sinks, the ultimate indoor tag sale with offerings plain and fancy, new, barely used and well-worn, large and small. And because it’s indoors, whether it rains, snows or the sun shines, whether it’s freezing outside or balmy, the sale will go on at The Armory, 80 Church Street, in Hoosick Falls from 9 am to 3 pm.

Find everything and anything at Minks to Sinks. From furniture, rugs and lawn mowers, kitchen and household items, to gardening and bicycles and sports equipment, kids’ toys, luggage, electronics, clothing, children’s toys, books, home decor, lamps, artwork, seasonal clothing and much more. You might even find minks and sinks!

Discover bargains on the new and used things you need. People looking for the perfect chair to go in the corner of the den or a table for under the living room window might be in luck. Families with kids who want an extra stroller or some toys might find just what they are looking for. Curious browsers will find that something you’ve been looking  for for ages or that something you never knew you needed but now just have to have. Treasure hunters, maybe you’ll come across that big score. Maybe your snowblower just conked out and you need a replacement. Antique dealers searching for desirable collectible items could get lucky.

Get ready to do some serious bargain hunting. From Minks to Sinks will be the biggest treasure hunt in town.

Paintings and mixed-media work by Hoosick Falls artist Aaron Buzzinski will be on display in 120gallery90 at The Armory through the month of February. The opening reception begins at 6 pm on Friday, January 31. At 7 pm that same evening a local mixed a cappella quartet will perform a wide variety of singing styles including barbershop, gospel, jazz and contemporary songs.

Aaron Buzzinski was born in Scranton, PA, but grew up in Hoosick. He is a graduate of HFCS. He spent much of his time and honed his artistic skills designing, building and painting sets for the High School Drama Club. More recently he has been involved with HAYC3 creating magical spaces for children at The Youth Center and events at The Armory and as the Resident Artist with the organization.

“I love the architecture, the roof lines, the front porches, the shingle patterns and slate roofs, the shapes of the windows in the houses and the buildings in Hoosick Falls,” said Buzzinski. “I’ve spent a lot of time exploring the nooks and crannies of this town, always looking for the bigger picture while focusing on the details. There’s so much beauty hidden in plain sight.” The hills and fields of Hoosick are also an inspiration for him. The graceful lines of the gently rolling hills and trees and even the vertical strength of the telephone poles that run perpendicular are emphasized in his East Hoosick landscape paintings.

Some of the materials you will see in the works in this show include repurposed wood and barn board, acrylic paint, latex house paint, paper from a variety of sources, actual lights, assorted boxes and more. His work is influenced by the paintings of American artist Edward Hopper.

The Hoosick Artist Guild project on exhibit concurrently in the gallery is appropriately called “Luminous.” Each artist has worked with vastly different materials, but all of the artworks light up.
