Hoosick Has Talent

No doubt there is plenty of talent in the Hoosick area. And often there is nowhere to exhibit that talent. The Empowerment Exchange invites everyone to bring his or her best voice, instrument, comedy, poetry, art, or skits, to the Immaculate Conception Dining Hall, 67 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, on Friday, May 3, from 6 to 9 pm.
Talent can’t shine without an audience, so bring friends and family along to enjoy a great night out and enjoy some laughs and good wholesome fun! There is no charge for this event, and there will also be free raffle prizes.

K-Kids Car Wash & Bake Sale

On Saturday, May 4, from 10 am to 1 pm the K-Kids are holding a Car Wash & Bake Sale to benefit a local child who needs help and to support the safe water project across the sea.
Come to 199 Church Street (Everchanging Hairstyles) in Hoosick Falls and pick up your goodies and get a nice clean car. Support our K-Kids, a youth service organization of the Kiwanis Club. The Club Advisor is Wendy Larson.

Lace Up For A Cure Raises $2,800 For Cancer – 128 Participate In Races

Gretchen Yonconish, Katie DiMaggio and Charity King had so much fun at the Freihofer’s Run for Women they decided to put on a race of their own to raise money for  Relay for Life. Statewide Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment Drive

When most people hear the fire siren go off in Hoosick Falls they are only slightly curious as to where the fire or accident is that caused the alarm. For 30 or so dedicated people the siren means leaving the dinner table or a warm bed or a special event and heading for the firehouse. The Hoosick Falls Fire Department is looking for another ten men and women to sacrifice time from family to be part of a volunteer organization that has been active in the Village for more than 165 years.

Derby Community Club Pre-Kentucky Derby Party

Please come to help celebrate the Derby Community Club’s 78th Anniversary with a pre-Kentucky Derby party on Friday, May 3. Post time is 6 to 9 pm at the Polish Hall, 12 Mechanic Street, Hoosick Falls. We will have music by Three’s Harmony, Kentucky Derby appetizers, a cash bar, raffles, a hat contest and of course a Kentucky Derby pool.

Shirley Valentine At Hubbard Hall

The Theatre Company at Hubbard Hall offers something a little different for its spring 2013 production, Shirley Valentine, written by Willy Russell. Shirley Valentine is a one character, transformative comedy, taking the form of a monologue by a middle-aged, working class Liverpool housewife; it focuses on her life before and after a transforming holiday abroad. Shirley Valentine will be performed by Christine Decker. The production is directed by Theater Company Artistic Director John Hadden. Shirley Valentine has earned numerous awards, including the Tony Award for Best Play and Best Actress.
Opening Night is Friday, April 26; performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 2 pm through May 12. Tickets cost $25. Lindsey McMahon of Petersburgh Is The 50th County Dairy Princess

A hundred and ninety people attended the 50th Rensselaer County Dairy Princess Banquet Saturday evening, April 13, at the Pittstown Ambulance Hall. For 50 years young women from Counties across the State and across the country have participated in this program that promotes the Dairy industry. These girls attend events in schools, speak to community associations, appear in parades and county fairs. Their job is to promote the importance of good nutrition, particularly through the consumption of dairy products.

Hoosick Planning Board Action – April 2013

It was a short meeting for the Town of Hoosick Planning Board on Monday, April 15. The entire Board was in attendance.
The only person to come before the Board was Keith Cipperly. Board member Daryl Cipperly recused himself from the Board for the discussion. Keith Cipperly told the Board that in 2001 he had applied to the Board for a one acre simple subdivision of property owned by his parents Paul and Joyce Cipperly on Cipperly Road in Hoosick. He never pursued the application. Since then the laws have changed and Cipperly requested the Board approve instead a two acre piece of the property as a family subdivision.
He will appear before the Board again in May.
