High PFOA Levels Found In Leachate From Hoosick Falls Landfill

The Village Board meeting on July 12 began with an engineer who is working on expansion of the Cumberland Farms in Hoosick Falls giving a presentation. Cumberland Farms is buying the neighboring property, formerly the Elks lodge, in order to expand its parking area to improve, in the words of the engineer, “access and maneuverability.” The existing building on that lot will be removed. The 35th Annual Walter A. Wood Alumni Reunion was held at the Pittstown Rescue Squad on Saturday, June 11. Approximately 150 members and guests from the 50-year and over graduating classes attended. A turkey dinner was served and Ronald Seifert was Master of Ceremonies. Invocation was given by Malcolm Brownell. Janice Tate introduced the M.C. following dinner, and classes were introduced. Hoosick community members are invited to Rock a Cake for the Rock the Block community party taking place on Wednesday, August 3.
A free and open event, Rock the Block will take place on Main Street at 6:30 pm and feature a free chicken barbecue (while supplies last), chalk art drawing (starting at 4 pm), live music, and more.
Nine-inch by eleven-inch sheet cakes will be available for pick up on Monday, August 1. Community members are invited to take one home and decorate it in a style that celebrates Hoosick and bring their “Hoosick Cake” to the party on Wednesday.
