ARPA Survey Concludes

New Lebanon Town Council Meeting

After compiling the 208 responses to the recent community survey about how the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds should be used, the top five areas of interest are: local businesses, monitoring Town water, health and wellness, the community center and the Rail Trail. There will be a special meeting on Tuesday, July 26, at 6 pm to not only discuss the results of the survey in a more in-depth manner, but also to discuss how to use the unallocated fund balance and excess sales tax revenue.

The resolution to adopt a negative resolution declaring and designating the Cool Ravines Critical Environmental Area (CEA) was approved.

New Firehouse Proposed in New Lebanon

At the May 10 regular meeting of the New Lebanon Town Council, Lebanon Valley Protective Association (LVPA) president Stephen Houghtling discussed the proposed plan for a new firehouse. New Jobs for the Green Economy

The Town of New Lebanon, NY is mapping out the new jobs being created by the green economy. On May 6, students from Cornell’s Brooks School of Public Policy presented their analysis of 11 emerging jobs that are relevant to New Lebanon. Working with regional educational institutions and businesses, the team identified training pathways and potential salaries. The recommended jobs include solar panel and heat pump installation, electric vehicle repair, as well as hydrogen cell engineer and wind turbine service technician. New Lebanon Clean Up Day

It’s been a difficult year, but here is spring again, right on schedule, so some of us residents of New Lebanon are planning to show our gratitude on April 23, the Saturday after Earth Day.

Bring your family and meet with us at the Pavilion at Shatford Park at 10:00 am.  We will assign you and your family to a team and provide the equipment you will need for an hour of safely picking up litter along a predetermined route.

Refreshments back in the Park will follow. 

Bring your own gloves and reflective vests if you have them. If you don’t, we will supply them.

Monday Fires Destroy Two Buildings

Stephentown firefighters were called out on Monday evening, April 4, to battle flames at an unoccupied structure at 345 West Road. The first units on the scene reported the building to be fully engulfed in flames and called for mutual aid from Berlin and Lebanon Valley, while the Hancock Fire Department was placed on standby. New Lebanon Farmers Market Catches a Congressional Eye

On Friday, March 25, Congressman Antonio Delgado stopped by the New Lebanon Farmers Market for a first hand look at what he labeled as a great example of how “local and family farms are being empowered to drive the country’s economy.” He made note of a large piece of farm oriented legislation he is attempting to move through Congress, but lamented some of the legislation currently coming out of Washington is making it more difficult for small local farms to survive. He claims his fellow lawmakers must realize the economy of scale, noting “people love to buy local.” He feels Congress must understand the need to feed the community as well as the agricultural bottom line. New Lebanon – What to Do With the Gravel Pit

For 24 years the Town has been mining its own bank run gravel out of the Sherman Pit located on Old Post Road, but that pit has recently been sold to one Harry Williams, which is a concern to Highway Superintendent Jeff Winestock. The Town has had exclusivity on the location, and he is afraid that may no longer be the case and expressed fears of liability concerns. He asked the Town Council for an emergency meeting on Monday, March 28, to put out bids for Bank Run Gravel. Also in attendance was Carl Clemente of Troy Sand and Gravel, who was representing Mr. Williams. He told the Town Council his client plans to hold to all the current terms of operation and pricing, and would even take over the mining permit from the Town if they wished. Limited Supply of At Home COVID-19 Tests Kits Available

NYS has provided free at home COVID test kits for residents through the Town of New Lebanon.  That said, we have 2,514 residents and have only received 96 test kits. Our goal is to get one test kit in each household at this time (if we receive more in the future we can expand our efforts to get one for each resident). The New Lebanon Central School District has also received free test kits for all students. They have one for each and every student. If you have a child who lives in your household and goes to NLCSD, you are NOT eligible to get a test kit through the town and you should contact the school for the test kit your household is eligible for.

Town test kits will be given out next Tuesday, January 11 from 8:30 to 10:30 am at the New Lebanon Town Hall. We will have tables set up outside. You will need to show proof of residency (ID with physical address within the Town of New Lebanon or a utility bill with a physical address within the Town of New Lebanon). Due to the high number of COVID cases currently, everyone must be wearing masks event though we are outside.

You will only  be eligible to pick up a test kit if you:

1) Are a resident of New Lebanon

2) Have no children in your household who go to NLCSD

3) Nobody else in your household picks up a test kit

New Lebanon’s 2022 Budget Adjusted and Approved

At the November 9 regular meeting of the New Lebanon Town Board, the Town’s 2022 budget was approved. While there were no proposed changes by the Board, a $20,000 adjustment was necessary to include the library budget increase that was passed on the November 2 election. Congratulations to the BNL Cross Country Team on their impressive performance at Sectionals last Friday, November 5. The BNL Girls Cross Country team won the Sectionals race at SPAC with 41 points. Allura Meizinger led the way with an overall second place finish. Elsie Corbett, Sadie Giumarra and Brady Hills had a strong wall finish placing 9, 10 and 11.
