With the word out that the historic Union Free School building in New Lebanon is to be demolished this week, many from the Town and the surrounding areas have been coming by to take one last look at the structure which has been a part of the Town’s personality for 99 years.

No Love And Roses At The New Lebanon Town Board Meeting

Valentine’s Day was not a night of love and roses for the New Lebanon Town Board. The monthly meeting once again came a bit undone over problems with the Ethics Board, past administrations and how much the new Town Hall that doesn’t exist is costing to exist on paper.
Resident Joanna Johnson-Smith read out the Town’s own rules on Committee and Board members which require them to be at 75% of meetings or they should be dismissed. She also questioned Council Member Bruce Baldwin as to how many complaints he had faced so far that were investigated by the Ethics Board. By her count it is now four. Make Your Own Living Foods

Vince Teachout, foodie and green living enthusiast, will conduct a workshop on living foods at the New Lebanon Library on Thursday, February 23, at 7 pm. This event is free and open to the public.
Living foods are uncooked, unprocessed, organic and, sometimes, fermented foods which contain natural living enzymes. Participants will learn about the benefits of these foods and also how to produce their own living foods such as sprouts, yogurt, kombucha, sauerkraut, beer and more.
For further information on this free event, please call the New Lebanon Library 518-794-8844. The Library is located at 550 State Route 20, ¼ mile north of the yellow blinking light at the intersection of Routes 20/22.

Cooking Up A Motocross Park

According to DEC’s illustrated “SEQR Cookbook,” it takes a dozen eggs – well make that a dozen SEQR Steps – to complete a “SEQR Soup.” The Stephentown Zoning Board cooks are only up to step six now with Howard Commander’s application for a zoning variance for his proposed Motocross project.

February  10 – Cellist Paul de Jong – 7 pm. Internationally acclaimed cellist of The Books performs contemporary, classical and original pieces accompanied by found video collage.
February  16 – The Rev Tor Solo Show – 7 pm. Rev Tor creates tasty yet infectious grooves and performs a large repertoire of well crafted original tunes and classic rock/folk covers.

Tsatsawassa Fire Company Breakfast

Sheriff Cites 28 Teens At New Lebanon Drinking Party

A January 23 Columbia County Sheriff’s raid on a drinking party at the New Lebanon residence of New Lebanon Town Supervisor Mike Benson on County Route 5 resulted in the arrest of 28 teens.
Twenty-seven teens were cited by Sheriff’s Deputies Hofstetter and Madison for underage drinking. Another teen was cited for possessing marijuana. All of the teens cited were from counties other than Columbia County except one.
