Grafton Planning Board Action – October 2010

The Grafton Planning Board session on Monday, October 18, began at 6 pm with Public Hearings on an Ed Chilson/Clear Brook LLC four lot subdivision, a Jennifer Contessa two lot subdivision and a Site Plan Review of a meteorological tower to be installed by Gamesa Energy. The Contessa subdivision on Fox Hollow Road sailed through the public hearing, noting only that a small piece of the property, about half an acre that is in Petersburgh, cannot be subdivided.

Top Students Are Recognized For Academic Excellence

Gloria Martinez and Tiffany St. Hilaire, two students from Hoosick Falls, were recently honored at a statewide awards ceremony for gifted children held by The Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY) on October 9 at Siena University.

American Red Cross Goal Reached

The Town of Hoosick Republican Club sponsored its yearly blood drive on Columbus Day, October 11, at the North Hoosick Fire Department. The American Red Cross provides a goal for the event, and once again that goal was met, thanks to the many residents who gave blood and the team effort of the Republican party.  Many lives can be saved with the blood donated. Hoosick Falls Veterans Day Event

Hoosick Falls American Legion Post 40 Commander Walter C. Zwinge wants to remind the community that Veterans Day is quickly approaching. At 11 am on Thursday, November 11, the Legion will present a short ceremony in Wood Park to honor all Veterans who have served and who have fought to keep America free. “Please show your patriotism by attending this event,” said Zwinge.

Hoosick Community Halloween Parade

Join us for the Town of Hoosick’s Annual Halloween Parade on Saturday, October 30. The parade will start and end at Wood Memorial Park beginning at 6 pm.

HFCS Key Club Trick Or Treat

On Sunday, October 31, the Key Club of Hoosick Falls Central will be Trick-or-Treating for UNICEF.  Key Club members in grades 9 – 12 will be going door to door asking our community to donate their coins to help children around the world. The funds raised will be used  to help save children’s lives in over 150 countries and territories through immunization, education, healthcare, nutrition, clean water and sanitation.
The “goblin” who knocks on your door will have an official orange “Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF” collection box. You can contact Mrs. Danforth, Key Club Advisor at HFCS for more information. Key Club wants to wish everyone a safe and Happy Halloween!

Michael Drogos, Jr. Graduates From Marine Boot Camp

Michael Drogos, Jr. graduated from the United States Marine Corps Recruit Training Depot in Parris Island, SC, on October 15. Mike was a June 2010 graduate from the Berlin Jr./Sr. High School and entered basic training on July 19.  After a brief visit home, Mike will attend one month Marine combat training in North Carolina and then begin his military schooling in Quantico, Virginia, where he will study Intelligence as his military specialty field. Mike is the son of Michael Drogos, Sr. of Grafton and Heather Fry of Sand Lake, NY.
