Hoosick Falls – Avis Dorr of River St., Hoosick Falls, NY, died December 3, 2008. Friends are invited to a Memorial Service and Celebration of her life at the First United Church, Presbyterian, Main St., Hoosick Falls, on Saturday, April 11, 2009, at 11 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Avis’ memory to the First United Church, Presbyterian or the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad.

Drive North along Route 22 and two fields past Route 346 on the right, along the Hoosic River near the intersection with the Little Hoosic River, you may be fortunate enough to see a bald eagle sitting on a nest high in a cottonwood tree. Fumes Close Hoosick Falls Rite Aid

The Hoosick Falls Fire Department responded to a call at the Rite Aid on Main St. in Hoosick Falls at 1:30 on Monday afternoon. Chief Jonathan Coon said when the sump pumps failed in the basement of the store and water collected on the floor, employees noticed the water had an oily sheen on it. They then noticed an oily residue leaking in through the wall on the parking lot side of the building. The store was evacuated and firefighters wearing air packs entered the structure to take chemical readings. “The place had an ‘oily/varnish’ smell,” said the Chief. Signs were placed on the doors stating that the Rite Aid was closed until further notice.

Hoosick Rescue Squad Receives Grant For Defibrillators

On Wednesday, March 11, representatives from Fireman’s Fund and Marshall & Sterling Insurance Companies met with members of the Hoosick Rescue Squad to present the Squad with a grant check for $5,300 to purchase two new automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to replace two outdated models.
