The Eastwick Press Expands Into New Lebanon

It was only last Friday that we heard about the demise of the Independent newspaper, and we began to get calls from a number of different people urging us to expand into New Lebanon to take up the task that the Independent had suddenly laid down.

Mayor Laura Reynolds Will Not Seek Re-Election

At the Tuesday regular meeting of the Hoosick Falls Village Board Mayor Laura Reynolds announced the candidates for the March election. All them are members of the Progressive Party and will be running unopposed as the Taxpayer Party did not put up a slate of candidates this year. Matthew Monahan is the candidate for Mayor.

Cherry Plain Family In 24 Hour Snowmobile Ride For Cystic Fibrosis

Bill, Tony and Lisa Hammersmith left their house in Cherry Plain at 12:30 am on Saturday, February 7, and drove to Woodford, VT, where the 4th Vermont Border to Border in 24 Hours for CF was to start. The whole ride would be on the VAST (Vermont Association of Snow Travelers) trail system. Registration started at 2 am and the first snowmobiles left at 4 am. Bill and Tony left the starting line at around 4:30 am from about the 130th place position out of 203 other sleds to ride about 350 miles to the Canadian Border in Norton, VT. Stephentown Taxpayers About To Get Revaluation Results

Stephentown’s Sole Assessor Tom MacVeigh announced at a special Town Meeting Monday evening that impact notices will be sent out on March 1 to property owners indicating how the Revaluation has affected their assessments. Available to answer questions along with MacVeigh were Stephen Peluso, Customer Relationship Manager from the State Office of Real Property Services (ORPS) and Frank Curtis, Rensselaer County Director of Real Property.

In Striving For No Tax Levy Increase HFCS Must Reduce Employees

The Hoosick Falls Central School Board of Education meeting had a much larger than usual audience this week because a first look at next year’s budget was on the agenda, and Superintendent Ken Facin has already said that the District is going to have to cut down the number of people it employs.

Town Of New Lebanon Board Meeting – Change In Store For The Town Hall

On Monday the New Lebanon Town Board decided to demolish the assembly room of the Town Hall. They weren’t in it at the time; the Town Board meetings have been held in the upstairs of the American Legion Hall on Mill Street since the assembly room of the Town Hall on Route 22 in Lebanon Springs was condemned.

Si And Vivian Close Celebrated Their 60th Wedding Anniversary

They met at the Owl Garage in Hoosick Falls when Si started working there with Vivian’s brother Elmer. “They said it would never last,” Vivian said, “because we were both on the rebound, but here we are 60 years later!”
