Hoosick Falls – Hazel Elizabeth Myers, 90, of 7 Albany Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2009, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT, after a short illness, surrounded by her nieces Joanne Babcock and Mildred Pierce and a very close friend Barbara Wrubelski. She was the wife of the late Alvin James Myers who died on December 31, 1998.
Grafton – Christopher D. Roberts, 58, of Shaver Pond Road, Grafton, NY, died on Friday, January 30, 2009, at his home surrounded by his loving family under the care of Community Hospice of Rensselaer County.
This three foot diameter weather balloon was raised to a height of 141 feet above the Levy property on Cherry Plain Hill Road last week so residents could judge the impact of the cell phone tower proposed by Verizon for that location. The real estate market in this area has clearly pulled back in 2008 from the boom years of 2005 to 2007. Prices are down a bit from their peaks at the top of the boom but in general seem to be above the five year average and higher than they were in 2004. While we can’t yet say that the market has stabilized, we might be able to characterize it as moving toward stabilization. All of the realtors consulted for this story reported an uncharacteristic flurry of activity in January, which seems to bode well for climbing out of the doldrums of 2008 in the coming year.

Grafton Lakes State Park held its 24th Annual Winter Festival and Ice Fishing contest on Saturday, January 24. A full schedule of family oriented events and some bright winter sunshine drew an estimated 2,500 patrons to the day’s festivities. The Park reports this is the highest turnout in the last several years.
