Petersburgh Library Events

The annual Library Plant, Book and Bake Sale will be held on Saturday, May 16 from 9 am until 1 pm.  Donations of plants, books and baked goods would be appreciated to support the Library programs.  Donations should be brought to the Library Friday afternoon between 2 and 6 or before 9 am on Saturday.

Story hour is held Tuesdays at 11 am. Preschoolers and their care givers are invited to join us for stories, games, crafts and snacks.  On May 19 it will be “Rhymes and Songs”.  There will be no story hour from May 26 through June 23 and it will resume on Tuesday, June 30.

Preparations are underway for the summer reading program which is for all ages from toddler to adults.  Sign-up begins June 1 and the first 100 people to sign up will be given a bag to carry their books back and forth to the library.  Save the date: on Tuesday, June 30 at 7 pm, the Puppet People will present their “Wizard of Oz” production at the PVMCC, sponsored by the Library.  Invite a friend and enjoy their wonderful show.

Local Talents to Perform Together At New Lebanon Library

Local favorites David Grover, Linda Worster and Puggy Demary will be performing together at the New Lebanon Library on Sunday,  May 17 at 1 pm. The group will perform originals plus a mix of folk and rock from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. From the Beatles to Crosby, Stills and Nash, from Simon and Garfunkel to Joni Mitchell, this group is always wonderful. All are welcome and the event is free, although donations for the performers are encouraged.

David Grover has earned countless awards including a Grammy nomination and Artist of the Year. He spent many years as Arlo Guthrie’s lead guitar and band leader. Grover and his Big Bear Band have performed at the White House, opened the Goodwill Games, appeared on The Today Show, performed with the Detroit Symphony for their Youth Series, and played for the delegates of the United Nations.

Linda Worster has toured as a solo musician throughout New England, New York, and New Jersey, performing in many venues. She has opened for many well-known artists including Harry Chapin, David Bromberg, Bill Staines, and Joan Baez.

Puggy Demary has been performing in the Berkshires for decades. He plays bass, guitar and piano, and is a songwriter, as well.

Back To The 1950s In Music And Garb

PVMCC presents “The Fabulous 50s Show” with live music by Tune Travelers on Friday, June 19, from 6 to 8 pm. Period costumes are optional, but encouraged, just for the fun of it!

Admission is $10, $5 for seniors. There will be an optional pizza buffet served from 5 to 6 pm for $6.

The Petersburgh Memorial Community Center is at 71 Main Street in Petersburgh, NY.

Junior TOH Rescue Squad Unit Helps At Armory Event

Members of the Junior Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad, including Taylor Flohr, Olivia O’Connel and Anna Brewer measured the blood pressure of people who stopped by their table at the Armory on Saturday, April 25. Other members of the Junior group are Makala Sonnett, Fallon Parker, Jayde Tutunjian and Bernard Davock.

Berlin Republicans Meeting

The Berlin Republican Committee will be meeting Wednesday, May 20 at 7 pm at the home of Ralph deLeon, Green Hollow Road, Berlin. We will conduct organizational business as well as discuss a proposed slate for the 2015 local elections. Anyone interested is invited to attend. Hoosick GOP Annual Spring Giffy’s Chicken BBQ

The Town of Hoosick Republican Committee will host its annual spring Giffy’s Chicken BBQ on Thursday, May 21 at Liporace’s old Getty station on Rte 22 near Blue Flame Gas.  Meal consists of a half BBQ chicken, with baked potato, cole slaw, beverage and dessert.  Pick up is from 4 to 6 pm.  Cost is $12 a meal or $8 for chicken only.

Grafton Volunteer Fire Department Monthly Breakfast

The Grafton Volunteer Fire Department along with the Grafton Ladies Auxiliary will be serving you an All You Can Eat Buffet Breakfast on Saturday, May 30 from 8 am to 11 am at the Grafton VFW – Fire Hall on South Road (County Route 85) .  On the menu: Belgian Waffles, Pancakes, French Toast, Eggs (made to order), sausage gravy and biscuits, bacon, sausage, home fries, toast, orange juice, coffee, and milk.  Cost is $10 per adult, kids 12 and under $5, kids 5 and under free!  We look forward to serving you!

Brown’s Cup: Wait ’Til Next Year

While the fish may be biting, the Brown’s Cup Annual Trout Fishing Tournament planned for Saturday, May 16 at the Walloomsac Brewery will be cancelled this year. Brown’s apologizes to all anglers but plans are already underway for the event next year in May. The trout dinner will also be cancelled. The tournament registration fees and dinner tickets already purchased will be refunded. Keep fishing and please join us next year.
