NYS Youth Snowmobile Safety Course Offered In Grafton

On Saturday, December 6, the Grafton Trail Blazers Snowmobile Club and the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will host a snowmobile safety course for young people ages 10 to 18. Students must be at least 10 years old on the day of the course. Parents are encouraged to attend and participate. The course will be held at the Grafton VFW/Fire Hall on South Road from 8:15 am to approximately 5 pm.

The course will be taught by NYS certified volunteer instructor Jim Blessing. It will cover topics such as NYS laws and regulations, riding skills, trail emergencies, protecting the environment, maintenance and repair, trailering, etc. To register, call the Grafton Lakes State Park office at 279-1155 or email elizabeth.wagner@parks.ny.gov with the parent’s name, student’s name and age and your phone number by Wednesday, December 3. Space is limited, so no walk-ins, please. The course is free of charge, and lunch will be provided. An accompanying adult will be required to fill out registration paperwork on the morning of the course; please plan accordingly.

Holiday Art Fair 2014 At SLCA

The Sand Lake Center for the Arts will host a gathering of artists and fine craftsmen at the 11th Annual Holiday Art Fair 2014, to be held on November 1 and 2. Among the offerings this year will be oil paintings, watercolors, jewelry, woodworks, pottery, children’s wear, stained glass, photography, baskets, glassworks and much more. Petersburgh – Cindy Ann (Crandall) Gentner, 55, died suddenly Friday, October 17, 2014, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT. Born in Cambridge, NY, on October 5, 1959, she was the daughter of the late Joseph B. Crandall and Trevah Yerke Crandall Burdick and the stepdaughter of the late Stanton Burdick. Cindy was raised in Petersburgh, NY, and Grafton, NY. and was a 1977 graduate of Berlin High School. She became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) through the BOCES program at school.

Kardia At The New Lebanon Congregational Church

New Lebanon Town Board Action – Pigs Stolen

A disturbing report of animal abuse and theft was made public at the monthly Town Board meeting in New Lebanon Tuesday night.

According to resident Vivian Steinberg, a pig being raised on her property by local farmers on West Hill Road was found missing the morning of October 3. The area was marked with blood and, as neighbors reported hearing gun shots the night before, it is believed the pig was killed and taken away. A second pig was found with a knife wound to the neck.

Village Of Hoosick Falls Board Action – The Former Dougherty Corner Project Is A Go

Jeff Buell of Sequence Development sought the approval of the Hoosick Falls Village Board on Tuesday evening October 14, for his planned development of the former Dougherty corner and adjoining Monahan building. He reiterated his plans for the property as he has done previously at various public meetings. He had drawings of the prospective new building, which will include a “21st century general store” and mezzanine on the first level, two apartments on the second floor and a 1,500 square foot loft apartment on the third floor. The roof will have gardens and a greenhouse. The first floor will be opened to the Monahan building to create more retail floor space. That building will also have a kitchen for a catering service.

Berlin Town Board Action – Bear Burgers

Before the Berlin Town Board regular meeting began on Thursday, October 9, and after it ended, Berlin Town Supervisor Rob Jaeger showed his smart phone pictures of the car accident in which he hit a black bear on Route 22 near South East Hollow Road. The collision occurred on Monday while Jaeger was driving to the Town Hall, he said. According to Jaeger, the bear was a female weighing about 200 pounds. Hoosick Falls Burglary Solved

According to Hoosick Falls Police Chief Robert Ashe, the Department responded to a reported Burglary at a residence on Mechanic Street in  Hoosick Falls on Sunday, October 5. The investigation revealed that over a period of weeks approximately $30,000 to $40,000 in cash had been taken.  Officers conducted several interviews within and outside the Village and into Vermont.

Evergreen Farm Of Petersburgh Named The 2013 Conservation Farm Of The Year

Last month the Rensselaer County Legislature passed a resolution honoring the Evergreen Farm in Petersburgh for being the recipient of the 2013 Conservation Farm of the Year Award presented by the Rensselaer County Soil and Water Conservation District. The resolution says that David and Leslie Green are honored for being true caretakers of their land.
