Virginia E. Cuddihy

Hoosick – Virginia E. (Murphy) Cuddihy joined her husband Richard J. Cuddihy and son David on July 18, 2014. Virginia had resided on Burgess Road in Hoosick, NY.

Born on December 9, 1922, in Hoosick Falls, Virginia was the daughter of Richard and Virginia (Muldowney) Murphy. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls as well as the Mildred Elley School and attended the College of St. Rose, both in Albany, NY. Virginia was a member of the Cheney Library Book Club and a volunteer at the Center For Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls as well as a member of their auxiliary. She was also a former member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

Survivors include her children, Janice Soscia and husband Michael of Latham, NY, Virginia Lynn Cuddihy and John Taylor of Hoosick Falls, Richard Cuddihy and wife Pam of Hoosick Falls and Mark Cuddihy and wife Lisa of Cambridge, NY. She is also survived by a brother, Robert F. Murphy of Palmdale, CA, her grandchildren, Tricia Bettis, Eric, Bridget, Amy and Sarah Cuddihy, Erin and Elizabet Soscia and Ben Taylor, her great-grandchildren, Michaela, Whitney, Mia, Kendall and Sophia. Her three good friends, Peg Crucetti, Inge Frickie and Judy Stewart, and two sisters-in-law, Rita Hunt and Elizabeth Murphy. She is pre-deceased by a brother, Richard F. Murphy, two sisters, Frances O’Neil and Anita Andrews, and four grandchildren, Timothy, Christopher, Michelle and Jennifer.

Relatives and friends called at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090, on Monday, July 21, from 4 to 8 pm. The Mass of Christian burial was held on Tuesday, July 22, from the Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls at 11 am. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary’s Academy or the Town of Hoosick Historical Society through the funeral home.

“Living Gospel Ministry” To Perform At All Saints Church

On Sunday, July 27, at 9:30 am, All Saints Church in Hoosick is pleased to host the Living Gospel Ministry’s dramatic reenactment of “Barabbas, Sinner Set Free.” This is a first person retelling of Christ’s last day on earth, the dramatic tale of a guilty man receiving full pardon at the expense of an innocent. The parish welcomes the community to join them for this exciting program.

The Hoosick Falls Village Board met for its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, July 8. During the public comment time Christine Miclette addressed the Board stating how unfair it was to neighboring residents and properties when the issues of continuous traffic in and out of the 42/45 River Street and 3 Third Street properties result in vandalism of adjoining properties. New Lebanon Town Board Action – Can You Hear Me Now?

It was a sultry night at the New Lebanon Town Board meeting Tuesday, July 8, a meeting made even more sultry because the air conditioner wasn’t on and some ladies were looking to put the Town back on the map with a museum of sorts that nobody on the Board had ever heard of.

“This is a brand new $500,000 Town Hall,” said resident Johanna Johnson Smith, “and you have to choose between hearing what you guys are saying and being comfortable. For a half a million dollars, shouldn’t there be a solution to that?”

Petersburgh Special Meeting

The Petersburgh Town Board held a special meeting on July 7 to consider adoption of Local Laws #1 and #2. The first is a local law to enforce building codes in the Town of Petersburgh, and the second is a law to provide for securing vacant buildings in the Town of Petersburgh.

Hoosick Town Board Action – Pool And Playground

At the Monday, July 14, meeting of the Hoosick Town Board, Town Supervisor Mark Surdam said the new pool bid package will be advertised this week. Bids will be opened on Friday, August 15. The Board hopes to receive more than one bid this time. Councilman Dave Sutton suggested that possible bidders be contacted and encouraged to submit bids.

Rensselaer County Legislature – The Hoosick P.O.

The Rensselaer County Legislature considered 27 resolutions at its regular meeting on Tuesday, July 8. Only four of the resolutions related directly to the communities in the Eastwick area.

Berlin Town Board Action – Gratitude

The regular Berlin Town Board meeting, held on Thursday, July 10, was filled with gratitude – gratitude to Highway Superintendent Jim Winn and his department for installing two flag poles at the Municipal Center in time for the Fourth of July, gratitude to the volunteers who planted, placed and watered the flower barrels along the route of the Berlin July 4 Parade on Main Street and gratitude to the anonymous donor who purchased the pricey, antique Berlin Band drum and donated it to the Berlin Historical Center and to Billy Hammersmith “for bringing it up.” [Read more…] about Berlin Town Board Action – Gratitude
