Hoosick WW II Veterans Recognition Ceremony
Due to overwhelming response by our WW II veterans and their families, we have had to stop taking reservations from the public for the WW II Veterans Recognition Ceremony on October 26. We have a full house.
If you are looking for a way to show your support for our local heroes, you can line Main Street to cheer them on as they ride behind the Patriot Guard Riders from HF Community Alliance Church to the Armory between 9:40 and 9:50 am that morning. We hope many will come out to show their respect and gratitude for what these men have done for us.
If you have any questions, please call Gail at 686-9888.
Taconic Valley Historical Society Meeting
“Women of the Revolution – Backstage Heroines” will be the topic of the October meeting of the Taconic Valley Historical Society. The speaker for the evening, Phyllis Chapman, brings history and notable Americans to life through living history personifications of some of the most fascinating and influential people. In period correct costume, and speaking in the first person, she introduces you to people you could never meet anywhere (or any-when!) else. The American Revolution was a war – a civil war in many ways – in which the female half of the American populace participated in many forms, willingly and unwillingly. Conventional history has been remiss in not adequately noting the support and exploits of women as battles raged in their towns and foreign invaders threatened their homes and way of life. Listen to their stories, participate in activities and examine artifacts and come away from the presentation with a richer understanding of our history.
The meeting will be on Monday, October 21, at 7:30 pm at the United Methodist Church on South Main Street, Berlin. It is open to the public and free of charge. Refreshments will be served.
