A series of daytime tutor training workshops will begin on Monday, November 4, at the East Greenbush Community Library. Each session will run from 12:30 to 3:30 pm. Anyone interested in attending this training is requested to attend an information session on Thursday, October 10, from 12:30 to 1:30 pm at the offices of Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County, located on the third floor of the First United Presbyterian Church, 1915 5th Avenue, Troy. For 45 years Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County has recruited and trained volunteers to provide individual and small group tutoring. Pioneer Fish And Game Club Annual Banquet

The Pioneer Fish and Game Club celebrated its 67th year with the annual election of officers and banquet at the Club grounds in Potter Hill on Sunday, September 15. A great time was had by about 40 members, their families and guests.
Elected as President was Ed Sukuskas (Peaser), Vice President was Rodd Post, Secretary was Gary Sargood and Treasurer was Dick Ogden.
Dyken Pond Bird Seed Sale
The Dyken Pond 20th Annual Bird Seed Sale is a fundraiser to benefit the Friends of the Dyken Pond Center. Order a premium bag of bird seed while supporting the programs of the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center. Proceeds from this fundraiser go towards scholarships for children to attend the Summer Nature Camp and land protection efforts. Stock up to last the winter!

Arrangements can also be made for pick-up at the Rensselaer County Government Center on Monday, October 22, or at the Dyken Pond Center.

Hoosick Falls – June I. McInerney, 91, of 27 Mechanic Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2013, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY. Born June 7, 1922, in Vly Summit, NY, she was the daughter of Raymond and Emma O. (Brown) Allen. June was the wife of the late Gerard V. McInerney of Cambridge, NY.
Survivors include a son, Terry A. Kelley of Troy, a sister Dolores (Skiff) Grover of Troy, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren as well as nephews and nieces.
Services were held Monday, September 23, at the Stump Church Cemetery in Cambridge with the Rev. George H. Orlemann of Cambridge officiating.
Arrangements were under the guidance of the New Comer Cannon Funeral Home in Colonie, NY.

Brian Holloway said he expects there will be arrests made following the vandalizing of his home in Stephentown on Saturday, August 31. The former New England Patriots football star said he is leaving that up to the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department. He is more concerned that the community and especially the parents of those involved take a firm stand and see to it that responsibility is acknowledged so that the young lives of the miscreants can be turned around.

Storm Over Hoosick Falls

The Hoosick Falls Fire Department responds to 120 calls a year on average. Berlin Town Supervisor Rob Jaeger announced at the Berlin Town Board meeting on Thursday, September 12, that he had received a signed offer and a $1,000 deposit for the Cherry Plain Polling Place. Petersburgh Town Board Action – Road Repairs Cause Budget Woes

The Petersburgh Town Board scheduled budget workshops for September 23 and 30 at 7 pm, and Town Supervisor Krahforst warned the Board that it will be facing a very difficult budget situation this year. Charles Guntner, the Town Bookkeeper, has warned the Supervisor that he doesn’t expect to have much fund balance at the end of the year.
