Eagle Bridge – Randall E. James, 67, passed away at his residence on Friday, January 13, 2012. He resided on Shaker Hollow Road in Eagle Bridge, NY, with his wife Judy Casciare-James.
Born on February 5, 1944, in Hoosick Falls, NY, Randy was the son of the late Everett and Phebe (Rice) James. He graduated with the first graduating class from Hoosick Falls Central School. [Read more…] about Randall E. James

February 4 – Wildlife Tracking Full Day Intensive with Alcott Smith. Alcott has a loyal following, a number of people attend this workshop each year, Alcott is that entertaining and informative. Experience tracking native animals in this all day field intensive. Participants should know their abilities and be prepared for a day outdoors in any weather condition. Pre-registration is required. Bev Freemantle Receives President’s Volunteer Service Award

Some people can never do enough for other people. Bev Freemantle of Pittstown is one of those people. Many years ago Bev retired from the telephone company with 30 years of service. While she worked she was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, the largest industry related volunteer organization in the world. She still volunteers with the Pioneers. Her group has made playground maps, put together health kits for the homeless and twice a year serves meals at Joseph’s House & Shelter in Troy.

Big Turn Out For And Against Stephentown Motocross

A public hearing on Howard Commander’s proposed motocross project drew a good-sized crowd of over 60 people to the Stephentown Town Hall on Thursday, January 5. The Zoning Board of Appeals, chaired by Roland Barth and comprising also Joseph Champion, Peter Ellard and Richard Sime, with Freling Smith absent, listened to arguments pro and con prior to opening SEQR proceedings. The SEQR (State Environmental Quality Review) process will determine the environmental impacts of the motocross track that Commander proposes for a field off of Webster Hill Road in the southwest corner of the town.

Hoosick Town Board Narrows Town Hall Choice

During the people to be heard portion of the Hoosick Town Board meeting Monday evening, January 9, Kevin Allard, a member of the Save the Armory Committee, suggested the Board reduce its options from four sites to two regarding a future Town Hall. He recommended that the Patire and Weeb’s Fish Fry properties be dropped from the list and the Board focus on either renovating the Armory or building a new Town Hall. New Lebanon Town Board Deletes Expletives

The Town Board of New Lebanon didn’t conclude the year 2011 on the best of notes. The end of year meeting on December 27 fell apart like a family holiday party where the family members had already seen far too much of each other over the holidays. Council Member Bruce Baldwin even started swearing out loud when a discussion on Ethics Board appointments turned to a resident’s blog comments. “We’re not here to read [expletive] blogs,” he said.

Harry Weir Foundation Gives $8,000 To Hoosick Area

On Saturday, January 7, Norma Brenenstuhl, on behalf of Key Private Bank trust administrator Michele Nichols, presented checks from the Harry Weir Foundation to the following individuals for their organizations. The amount distributed this year was $8,000. That is five thousand dollars less than was available from the fund the previous year. The presentations were made at the Cheney Library.
