Pumpkinpalooza Chili Cook-off Winners

The Third Annual Hoosick Pumpkinpalooza Chili Cook-off, sponsored by Stewart’s Shops, Big Moose Deli and Contessa Racing, was held on Saturday, September 24. The crowd favorite for 2011 was “Wick’s Apple Chili” entered by Ken Wickenden of Hoosick Falls. Ken took home a trophy and bragging rights. Meet The Grafton Democratic Party And Citizens Party Candidates

The Grafton Democratic and Grafton Citizens Parties would like to welcome everyone to a Meet the Candidates Night on Saturday, October 15. The event will be held at the Grafton Bed and Breakfast on Route 2, just east of the village. The hours are 7 to 9 pm.
This is a great opportunity to meet the candidates for Town of Grafton and Rensselaer County offices and to discuss their records and their plans for the future.

Hoosick Grange News

Hoosick Grange met on September 28. Master David Cornell conducted the usual business. The Lecturer announced that she had the program booklet almost completed. Elsie Marpe and Loie Slingerland are designing the cover. The Lecturer hopes to have them done by the next meeting.

HFCS PTA 2011 Fall Festival

HFCS PTA is proud to announce its featured raffle items for the Eleventh Annual Fall Festival being held on Saturday, October 22, from 9 am to 3 pm at Hoosick Falls Central School.
Each year, the featured raffle items are always an event in themselves, and 2011 will be no exception. The public can get a sneak peek at them prior to the Festival now to October 21 at the Hoosick Federal Credit Union.

Grafton Historical Society Wine And Cheese Festival

The thirteenth annual “Spirits of Fall,” a wine and cheese festival, will be held on Saturday, October 22, from 4 to 6 pm at the historic Grafton Inn. The event is sponsored by the Grafton Historical Society.
This popular event features award winning New York State wines as well as an array of New York and other cheeses. Once again, there will be plenty of other hot and cold appetizers. We are also pleased to continue to have many door prizes and a raffle basket that features homemade and gourmet items.

Stephentown Memorial Library Events

• International Observe the Moon Night – Join the fun on Saturday, October 8, at 6:30 pm. Bring the whole family and learn about the moon. Kids are invited to wear pajamas and enjoy moon related stories, make a lunar map out of Oreos and howl at the moon outside. Moon pies and juice will be served inside, and then we’ll head out to view the moon. Dress warmly and bring binoculars or telescopes, lawn chairs, flashlights and bug repellent. We will have binoculars on a tripod set up for all to share. We hope to have some experts join us to help us as we view the moon. In the event of bad weather, we’ll just keep the party inside.

New Lebanon Library October Events

The New Lebanon Library announces the following October events. All of these events are free and will take place at the Library which is located at 550 State Route 20.
• October 12 – Swap, Not Shop! Halloween Costume Exchange – 6:30 pm. Bring a bag of gently used, clean clothing and accessories suitable for Halloween costumes and an additional empty bag. After the swap, you’ll leave with a bag of “new to you” items. Any left over items will be donated to Goodwill.

Petersburgh Fire Auxiliary Can Auction And Bake Sale

The Petersburgh Fire Auxiliary will be holding its annual Can Auction, Bake Sale/Tag Sale on Saturday, October 8, from 10 am to 2 pm at the Fire House on Route 22.
Those who stop by will have the opportunity to win some wonderful items or gift certificates from local vendors for just $ .25 a chance.  There will be a wonderful selection of home baked pies, breads, cookies, etc.  We will also have some very reasonably priced gently used treasures in our Tag Sale.

West Hoosick F.D. Pancake Breakfast

The West Hoosick Fire Department will hold an “All You Can Eat” breakfast at the firehouse on Sunday, October 9, from 7:30 to 11 am. The menu includes pancakes, French toast, eggs, sausage, bacon, toast, juice, coffee, tea and hot chocolate. This will be our last breakfast for the year. We appreciate the support we receive from the community and other fire departments. The firehouse is located on Pine Valley Road near the intersection of County Routes 109 and 103. Please call the firehouse with any questions at 686-1814.

Pittstown Volunteer Fire Department Chicken Barbecue

The Pittstown Volunteer Fire Department will be holding a Chicken Barbecue Dinner on Saturday, October 8, at the Pittstown Fire House, 134 Parker School Road, serving take-outs from 3 to 5 pm. The price is $10 per dinner. At the same time a Fire Prevention Open House with fire safety information and hands on fire extinguisher demonstrations will occur.
