About 35 citizens came to the Petersburgh Town Board meeting on Monday, April 15. Most of them were there to comment on the Town Board resolution affirming support for the Second Amendment right to bear arms and opposing the NY SAFE Act gun control legislation.

Story Hour
The Petersburgh Public Library pre-school story hour continues to meet on Tuesdays at 11 am. We are reading our way through the alphabet and will be continuing with Q, R, S and T in the next four weeks. Pre-schoolers and their caregivers are invited to join us for stories, songs, activities and crafts.
Book Group
The book discussion group will meet on Tuesday, May 14, at 7:30 pm to discuss the book The Tender Bar by J. R. Moehringer. Copies of the book are available at the Library, and new members are welcome to join in the discussion.
Summer Reading Program
Plans have begun for the summer reading program. The schedule will be out in a few weeks. Save the date on Thursday, June 27, at 7 pm when The Puppet People will be back in town with the performance of The Firebird. Youth ages 10-16 are invited to sign up for a special program, Take a DIP (Digital Instagram Photographs) This Summer. There is room for eight participants in this workshop which will be held from 1 to 3 pm, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, June 24, 26 and 28 and Tuesday, July 2, at 6:45 pm. Jordan Elmowitz, Assistant Director, The Photography Center of the Capital District, LLC, will be teaching the workshop. Everyone will learn how to take the best pictures, edit them and prepare them for printing as well as learning the best way to use Instagram. Sign-up is required since space is limited.
This program is supported by Federal Library Services and Technology Act funds awarded to the New York State Library by the Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services.
Lucille Collier
Petersburgh/Hoosick Falls – Lucille (ne’e Lucia) Virginia Collier, 99, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2013, at the Danforth Adult Care Center in Hoosick Falls, NY, where she had lived since February 2009. A resident of Petersburgh, NY, from 1975 until 2009, Lucille was the wife of the late Eugene Collier, who died in 1989. She is pre-deceased by her three brothers, Anthony, Angelo and Albert Incani.
Born on May 3, 1914, in Hoboken, NJ, Lucille was the daughter of Michael and Gabriela Incani. While working as a secretary during the day, Lucille pursued a passion for painting and drawing by attending night classes at the Grand Central Art School in NYC during the 1930s. It is there that she met and fell in love with Eugene Collier, a fellow student. When the Second World War broke out Eugene was drafted and sent to North Africa where he served his country from 1943 until 1945. When he returned home, Eugene and Lucille were married on September 26, 1945.
Survivors include her son, Michael and daughter-in-law Lynne Anderson of Canaan, NY, her devoted niece and nephew, Jane and Peter Curran of Barnegat, NJ., her loving granddaughter Rachel Collier and great-grandson, Roman.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Community Hospice of Rensselaer County.
The family also wishes to express its deep appreciation to the management and staff of the Danforth Adult Care Center for the tremendous love, care and support they extended to Lucille throughout her stay with them.

The Board of the Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center is doing a fundraiser for the Memorial Honor Roll Monument Fund. There will be a full lasagna dinner on Saturday, April 27, from 4 to 7 pm.

HFCS Accepting Universal Pre-Kindergarten Applications
The Hoosick Falls Central School District is currently looking for the Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) class of 2013-2014. UPK is a special program established by the State Education Department to provide an early learning experience for the children of eligible families. Eligible families are defined as those who live in the Hoosick Falls School District and have children who will be four years old on or before December 1, 2013.
HFCS will be running UPK classes during the 2013-2014 school year at sites to be determined and will accept the applications, verify eligibility, and place children as slots are available. Parents/Guardians will be notified of the status of their child once slots have been filled. If more requests are made than can be placed, a random lottery will be used to select children for the program. Application and registration packets can be obtained at the Elementary School Office beginning on Monday, April 15.
The completed registration forms and the Universal Pre-Kindergarten application must be returned by 3 pm on Friday, June 7, to Amy Netti, Elementary Principal, HFCS, Universal Pre-K Program, P.O. Box 192, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090.

Athena Burke’s Music Sanctuary To Open In Cambridge
Everyone is invited to the open house at the brand new Music Sanctuary, a joyful performing arts center, on Saturday, April 20, from 4 to 6 pm. The Music Sanctuary, the creation of local singer-songwriter Athena Burke, is a concert hall and movement space on the third floor of VARAK Park, 15 West Main Street, in Cambridge, NY. Come check out the gorgeous freshly painted loft and hear original uplifting music. Admission is free.
Burke is a devotional musician and spiritual teacher who has been performing since childhood. She went to the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston where she honed her jazz skills and studied advanced composition and arranging. After attending Berklee, Burke studied many spiritual and healing modalities, becoming a master coach and spiritual counselor. For the past 20 years, Athena has had an international private practice, as well as traveling the world training holistic professionals and performing concerts.
The Music Sanctuary will be an oasis filled with music and movement, community and unity. Look for upcoming concerts by Athena Burke and other inspired local and traveling performers, including the Sanctuary’s kickoff-Athena’s upcoming CD release concert on May 11, to celebrate Mother’s Day and Music!

Helen P. Willbrant
Petersburgh – Helen P. Knauer Willbrant, 85, of Willbrant Road, Petersburgh, NY, died on Monday, April 8, 2013, at the Center for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, VT, where she had been a resident for three years.
Born in Troy, NY, on January 5, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Anna Heinike Knauer. Helen was the loving wife of Robert F. Willbrant, whom she married on June 2, 1946, in St. Lawrence Church in Troy. She was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls, NY.
Helen was raised and attended schools in Troy. In her earlier years she worked for Montgomery Ward in Menands, NY. She met her future husband, Bob, at a dance where their courtship started. After their marriage, they moved to Cherry Plain, NY, and in 1955 purchased the Maple Lane Farm in Petersburgh. She became a “farmer’s wife,” helping around the farm while raising their children. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt who will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Bob, her three children, David R. and wife Diane Willbrant of Oklahoma City, OK, Nancy H. and husband Charles Stearns of Petersburgh, Anna M. Willbrant-Rice and husband Steven of East Nassau, NY, her sister, Celia, who was married to the late Arthur Allen of California, her brother, Lawrence and wife Dorothy Knauer of Troy, her grandchildren, William, Warren and Robert Willbrant, Steven Stearns, Audrey Kuhn and Dustin Rice, and her great-grandchildren, Lana Willbrant and Conner Kuhn, along with many nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by siblings, Theresa Cote and Nicholas, Henry and Anna Mary Knauer.
A Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Thomas Zelker at the Immaculate Conception Church, 67 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, on Saturday, April 13, at 10 am. Burial will follow in the Berlin Community Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation on Friday, April 12, from 4 to 7 pm in the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home, 66 Armsby Road, Petersburgh. Memorial contributions in Helen’s memory may be given to the Center for Living and Rehabilitation Activity Fund, 160 Hospital Drive, Bennington, VT, 05201.
Erika Hawkins And Ryan Groux Are Wed
Erika Lyon Hawkins, daughter of Philip and Jane (Wheeler) Hawkins of Buel, NY, was united in marriage to Ryan Charles Groux, son of Larry and Claudia Groux of Petersburgh. A ceremony took place November 4, 2012, at McKnownville United Methodist Church in Albany.

Jack Fox
Petersburgh – Jack Vincent Fox, 87, died suddenly and peacefully in his home in Petersburgh, NY, on Wednesday, March 27, 2013. He is pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Felton Fox, to whom he was married for 62 years, his parents, Jacob Lewis Fox and Anna Elsie Shank Fox of Hatfield, PA, and his sister, Theresa Irene Fox Reese of Dickinson, TN.
