Kirstin Hodges, a tenth-grader at Berlin Middle-High School, has a chapter written about her battle with cancer and how she gives back in the book What Makes Them Amazing: Inspiring Stories of Young Adults Fighting Cancer. Author Janine Cammarata of Rexford, after losing a son to cancer, interviewed and wrote the stories of nine local area teens that have battled different forms of cancer and what it means to pay it forward.

PVMCC Holiday Craft And Gift Fair
On Saturday, December 8, from 9 am to 1 pm there will be a holiday craft and gift fair at the Petersburgh Veterans memorial Community Center.
Shop locally this holiday season! A wide variety of jewelry, pottery, photographs, cards, baskets, soap, knitted items, candles, wrought iron gifts, hand turned wooden goblets, organic farm goodies and more will “deck the hall” at the annual PVMCC Craft and Gift Fair. Stop by the kitchen for homemade soup or chili with a slice of fresh baked bread. Boy Scout Troop 222 will be making and selling wreathes. Don’t go home empty handed…come shop with us!

Petersburgh House Burns To The Ground – No One Injured

The home of the Votra family at 1024 Taconic Trail, just east of where Dayfoot Road meets Route 2, burned to the ground on Monday afternoon.
No one was home at the time of the fire, and no one was injured. The fire was called in by passers-by who saw the smoke and flames, one of whom was firefighter and Petersburgh Supervisor Siegfried Krahforst.

Two Petersburgh Girls Who Are Miss Olivia’s Ballet Students Dance In Professional Nutcracker

Two students from the British School of Ballet in Hoosick Falls auditioned for parts in the Christmas ballet The Nutcracker. Both girls received parts. Over 200 students from different ballet schools auditioned and about 40 students were chosen. Nine year old Adriana Hendricks from Petersburgh will be an angel and six year old Alexandra Bull will be a Polichinello.

Kelsey O’Dell Is DAR Good Citizen
Berlin High School announces the winner of the Daughters of the American Revolution National Society Good Citizen Award.
The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is a lineage society that is a non-profit organization dedicated to patriotism, historic preservation and education.
Kelsey O’Dell, daughter of Lecia and Larry O’Dell of Petersburgh, has been selected by the Berlin High School faculty and senior class as the DAR Good Citizen. Kelsey was chosen as a student who demonstrates the qualities of a good DAR citizen – Dependability, Service, Leadership and Patriotism.

Voice of Democracy Essay Contest – Veterans Of Foreign Wars
Since 1947, the Voice of Democracy has been the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ premier scholarship program. Each year, more than 50,000 high school students compete for more than $2.3 million in scholarships and incentives. Students compete by writing and recording a broadcast script on an annual patriotic theme. This year’s theme is “Is Our Constitution Still Relevant?” Kelsey O’Dell, daughter of Lecia and Larry O’Dell of Petersburgh, was selected as the winner of the Berlin High School Voice of Democracy Essay Contest and will advance to compete on a national level. Born in Lawrence, MA, on July 27, 1941, Bill was the son of the late Ruth and Henry Nason of West Boxford, MA. He was educated in West Boxford schools and was a graduate of Johnson High in North Andover, MA. Petersburgh Town Board – No Action On Energy Efficiency

After the Board was less than enthusiastic last month about having an energy audit done on the Petersburgh Town Hall, Petersburgh Supervisor Siegfried Krahforst invited two guest speakers to address the Board about grants for improving energy efficiency in public buildings. One was Linda von der Heide, the Principal Planner for Rensselaer County, and the other was Don Fletcher of the engineering firm Barton & Loguidice. Both were very knowledgeable about what was available generally from government or private grants, but neither was able to point to specific programs that would be available to the Town for specific projects.
