Free Books At The Petersburgh Public Library

The Petersburgh Public Library invites everyone to stop by the Library for free books.  For one week only, October 15-20, books and videos in the vestibule are free! The Library needs to clear space for new donations so at the end of the week there will be house cleaning, and we will have space for more donations.  So, please stop by and see if there is a treasured book you would like to take home.

Taconic Valley American Legion Fundraiser

The Taconic Valley American Legion Auxiliary is sponsoring a “Cheapstakes Extravaganza” on November 3 from 9 am to 1 pm at the Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center. There will be tag sale tables, a Chinese Auction and a food and pie sale. There will also be a “best food” contest which involves free samples of each food and then a vote for the tastiest one. The contest, with a $20 prize, is open to anyone who brings in food to share.

Petersburgh – Ronald L. Brock, 70, of Potter Hill Road, Petersburgh, NY, died on Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY, after an extended illness.
Born in Petersburgh on February 1, 1942, he was the son of Elizabeth May Wescott Brock of Walloomsac, NY, and the late Lester Elwin Brock, Sr. He was the loving husband of the late Thelma A. Knuetter Brock, who died on June 21, 1997. They were married in Grafton, NY, on March 19, 1965.

Troop 222 At The BSA Twin Rivers Fall Camporee

Troop 222 just attended the BSA Twin Rivers Council Fall Camporee at the Saratoga Spa State Park September 28-30. The boys competed in a decathlon of events that build character, team work and Scout skills.

Petersburgh Fire Auxiliary Can Auction, Bake Sale/Tag Sale

The Petersburgh Fire Auxiliary will be holding its annual Can Auction, Bake Sale/Tag Sale on Saturday, October 6, from 9 am to 1 pm at the Fire House on Rt. 22.
Those who stop by will have the opportunity to win some wonderful items or gift certificates from local vendors for just $.25 a chance. There will be an amazing selection of home-baked pies, breads, cookies, etc.  We will also have some very reasonably priced gently used treasures in our tag sale.

Square Dance At The PVMCC

There will be a square dance at the Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center on Saturday, October 13, from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. Dances will be called by Ken Hallenbeck with lively music provided by Martha von Schilgen, Floyd Smith and Hallenbeck. Singles and beginners are welcome. All dances will be taught. Admission is $8 for adults and is free for kids under 18. Light refreshments will be available. For more information, call Jeanne at 518-658-3953.

Petersburgh Town Board Action – Broken Wheel Fixed

Highway Superintendent Ray Harrison said his crew had poured new footings for the Broken Wheel Bridge, working with the County Engineer, and the red flag has been removed from that bridge.
Town Board Member Bill Seel thanked him for fixing that bridge.

Enjoy a little competition?  Join the Petersburgh Rod & Gun Club on September 30 and October 7 at noon for a turkey shoot.  Now is your chance to show your neighbor up with shot guns or rifles – no 10 gauge shot guns. This year we are also sponsoring a pistol shoot – you provide your own ammunition for the pistols. Good food will be available – hot dogs, sausage, hamburgers, baked beans and homemade pies.
So bring your family, enjoy the afternoon and win a turkey! A summer-long 50/50 raffle is also being held in addition to various raffles. The Petersburgh Rod & Gun Club is located on Scriven Road.

The Petersburgh Public Library invites everyone to a visual presentation by Randy Kneer on the firetower in Grafton on Saturday, Setember 22, at 10 am. Kneer has written the book I Remember When: the Untold Story of Helen Ellett. This is the story of a courageous woman who devoted a great part of her life to observing at the Dickinson Hill Fire Tower located in Grafton and the wonderful life she led and devoted to many others.
