Local Students Graduate from Clarkson University

Matthew J. Hartnett of Berlin and Nicholas Paine of Petersburgh graduated from Clarkson University on May 12, 2012. Hartnett earned a bachelor of science in chemical engineering with a chemistry minor. Paine earned a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering.
Presidential Scholar
Nicholas Paine was also named a Presidential Scholar for the spring 2012 semester at Clarkson University.
Presidential Scholars must achieve a minimum 3.80 grade-point average and carry at least 14 credit hours.

Petersburgh Town Board Meeting – Town Hall Renovations

Supervisor Krahforst said the renovations to the Town Hall which he has undertaken have exceeded the sums budgeted and there is no more money in this fiscal year for work on the Town Hall.
Councilman David Alderman said the digging to install the new light had caused one part of the walkway to sag by a couple of inches, which made it difficult to get a wheelchair up the walkway. He urged that the whole sidewalk be rebuilt, but, as there was no money available for such a project, Highway Superintendent Ray Harrison said he would come the next day and lift the sunken section back where it belongs.

Upcoming Capital District Friday Field Group Outings

The Capital District Friday Field Group, formed in 1993, is a mix of amateur and professional naturalists that meets weekly on Fridays at 5:30 pm between April and September to explore the natural features of sites in the Capital Region.  The trips are free, and the public is welcome.  Upcoming Trips:
June 1 – Petersburgh/Berlin – Scout a yet to be chosen site for wildflowers in the Petersburgh-Berlin area. Meet at the Baptist Church in Petersburgh at the junction of NY Rt. 22 and NY Rt. 2 then carpool to the site. The contact is Chuck Kieweg, 794-7598.
June 8 – Hren Property near Queechy Lake, Canaan.  Survey for interesting mixed flora. Meet to car pool at the White Church on Corner of NY Rt. 20 and 22 in New Lebanon. The contact is Chuck Kieweg 794-7598.

Petersburgh – Michael S. Walker, 54, passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at his residence in Petersburgh, NY. Born in Bennington, VT, on April 23, 1958, he was the son of the late David S. Walker. Petersburgh Troop 222 Helps Clean Up Trails At GLSP

Boy Scouts from Troop 222 Petersburgh helped the Grafton Lake State Park over the weekend of May 4-6. Nine Boy Scouts, their Leaders and some family members cleaned out the woods at the Park. Grafton Lakes State Park was the site of a Scout invasion – over 200 Boy Scouts camped, cleaned and had a fun filled weekend in the Park. The Petersburgh Fire Auxiliary will host one of its annual Charlie Hot Dog Sales on Friday, May 18, at the Fire House. The sale will begin at 4 pm and last as long as the dogs themselves.
The dogs cost $9 a dozen, $4.50 a ½ dozen or $.75 each.

Petersburgh – Betty R. Thomas Jones, 75, of Smith Road, Petersburgh, NY, died on Monday, May 7, 2012, at her home under the care of Community Hospice of Rensselaer County.
