Cub Scout Pack 911 held its Annual Pine Wood Derby race on Sunday, March 4, at the Stephentown Fire Hall. Twenty cub scouts participated in the event. A great time was had by all the scouts and their families. Trophies were awarded to each den and to the overall winners.

Tophenjamin At PVMCC In Music And Art Cafe
Join us this Friday, March 16, from 7 to 9 pm for Music and Art Cafe at the Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center. This month the PVMCC will be featuring Tophenjamin, a brothers’ duo from Pittstown. Don’t miss Christopher and Ben Lane’s fresh, original interpretations of popular songs we know and love and obscure songs that are just waiting to be heard. This year marks their third birthday as a band, and they will be handing out cupcakes to celebrate! Admission is $5 per person, $8 per couple; children under 12 admitted free.
Petersburgh Library Story Time
The Petersburgh Public Library will be presenting three spring storyhours for pre-schoolers. Pre-schoolers and their care-givers are invited to join us for stories, songs, crafts and snacks at 10 am on Monday mornings on March 19, 26 and April 2. On March 19, “Colors of the Rainbow” will be the theme. On March 26, “Commotion in the Ocean” will feature stories from the ocean, and April 2 will bring us “Rain, Rain Go Away.” Plan to join us with your pre-schooler for books that they will love.

Petersburgh – Dorothy M. Weaver Alderman, 77, of Taconic Trail in Petersburgh, NY, died on Sunday, March 11, 2012, at the Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center in Bennington, VT.
Born in Petersburgh on March 20, 1934, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Florence Moon Weaver. She was the devoted wife of the late Robert A. Alderman, who died on November 18, 1999. They were married in Berlin, NY, on January 6, 1951.

Nineteen twelve was a leap year. It was the year the Titanic sank and the year Harriet Quimby became the first woman to fly across the English Channel. It was the year the fifth renewed Olympic Games opened in Stockholm, Sweden. It was the year Danny Thomas, Jose Ferrer, Jackson Pollock, Brian Nelson, David Astor, Pat Nixon, Sonja Henie, Foster Brooks, Perry Como, Sam Snead, Woody Guthrie, Julia Child, Gene Kelly, Pope John Paul I, Barbara Hutton, Lady Bird Johnson and Rose Hewitt were born.
And on Tuesday Rose celebrated her 100th birthday!

Taconic Valley Basketball Awards Night

The Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center was overflowing with the area’s aspiring basketball youth and their families on Tuesday night, March 6. It was the Awards Night and Pizza Party for the Taconic Valley Basketball Program. Approximately 90 young players were presented with trophies and pizza, not an easy task considering the PVMCC was packed with energetic and talkative families!

Born in Petersburgh, NY, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Cora Jones Weeden and the wife of Erwin L. Schwalb, who died in 2009. Marion was a graduate of Hoosick Falls High School.
