As I have talked with folks about this Saturday’s American Legion Auxiliary’s fund-raiser I have heard some perplexing questions. I do not profess to having all the answers, but I do know why I am attending. I want to do what I can to honor our veterans. My first husband was a Vietnam combat veteran. Boy Scout Troop 222 Needs Your Help
It has come to the attention of local Boy Scout Troop 222 out of Petersburgh that the Salvation Army is in great need of donations consisting of gently used clothing and household items. We will be holding a collection drive at the Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center on Route 2 in Petersburgh from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, February 4, when the Salvation Army truck will be here.
If you can’t make it to our drive and still wish to donate, you may call Scoutmaster Jim Akers at 658-0872 or 728-0352 to schedule a pick-up time.

Grafton And Petersburgh Youth Football Careers End

In mid November, Noah Grandjean of Grafton and Joshua Kluck of Petersburgh celebrated their last year of football. Both boys played a total of seven years for the Brunswick Bulldogs in the Northeast Youth Football League. They each started playing in the Bulldog Flag Division at age four for three years. Then they played two years in the Junior Tackle Division, and, finally, finished their two years of Senior Tackle Division this past year.

The Petersburgh Public Library will be having a drop in craft activity between 10 am and 12 noon on Saturday, January 14. Children are invited to join us in making a shadow box to take home and use to display their treasures.
Book Group
The book Cleopatra, A Life by Stacy Schiff will be discussed at the next book discussion group on Tuesday, February 7, at 8 pm. For this month only the meeting will be at 8 pm rather than the usual 7:30 pm time. Copies of the book are available at the Library, and everyone is invited to join in the discussion.

Petersburgh Ice Fishing Derby
The Petersburgh Rod & Gun Club is sponsoring an ice fishing derby on January 28 from 6 am to 3 pm on Dyken Pond and South Long Pond. Prizes will be awarded at the Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Hall at 5 pm.
The entry fee is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Register at the Dam or pre-register at Papa’s Pizza, Vonadeau Wine & Spirits or the Stephentown Hotel. Parking is available at the Dyken Pond Environmental Center. Come join the fun! If you have questions, call 207-7518.
Taconic Valley Soccer Club Spring Travel Team Registration
The Taconic Valley Soccer Club has reopened its rosters for the upcoming Spring travel teams. If you want to play during the Spring season there is still time to register until January 20. The following teams are still looking for a few players: U12 girls, U14 girls, U16 boys and U17 girls.

Molly Durnin Debuts At Caffe Lena
Singer-songwriter Molly Durnin of Petersburgh makes her debut at the Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs, on Wednesday, January 18, at 7 pm. Caffe Lena is the region’s foremost folk club with a national reputation for presenting the best in acoustic music. Durnin is being featured in the venue’s monthly Emerging Artist Breakout series.

Petersburgh – Miriam Friedman of Babcock Lake, Petersburgh, NY, passed away on January 4, 2012. Miriam is pre-deceased by her husband of 42 years, Harold Friedman. Miriam is survived by her two sons, David and wife Maribeth Friedman of Elverson, PA, and Michael and wife Diane Friedman of Voorheesville, NY. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Sarah Friedman and Peter Kueny-Rongione of Shillington, PA, Gordon Friedman of Boston, MA, and James Friedman of Albany, NY, and by her great-grandchild, Logan Harold Kueny-Rongione.
