Elva G. Brenenstuhl
Petersburgh – Elva G. Brenenstuhl, 81, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2011, at the Hoosick Falls Health Center in Hoosick Falls, NY. She had resided at the Village at Fillmore Pond in Bennington, VT, and formerly in Petersburgh, NY.
Born on April 23, 1930, in Cambridge, NY, Elva was the daughter of the late David W. and M. Beatrice (Haswell) Brenenstuhl. She attended the two room school house in North Petersburgh and graduated from Hoosick Falls High School. Elva continued her education at Albany College of Pharmacy where she earned her Bachelor of Science and at the College of St. Rose where she earned her Masters Degree in Science. She worked at the North Adams Hospital in Massachusetts and for United Hospitals of Newark, NJ. Elva later worked at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY, where she held positions of Hematology Supervisor, LIS Coordinator and Lab Supply Coordinator, retiring in 1992. Elva was a member of the North Petersburgh United Methodist Church, where she also served as Treasurer.
Survivors include several cousins and her close friends.
A graveside service is on Friday, August 5, at 2 pm the Maple Grove Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the care of the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls.

Petersburgh – Evelyn A. Shorter, 87, went to her eternal rest on Monday, August 1, 2011, at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation in Bennington, VT.

Petersburgh Town Board Action – Lightning Strikes

At the July 20 Petersburgh Town Board meeting, moved from Monday July 18, Highway Superintendent Ray Harrison said lightning hit the Town Garage and fried the alarm system. He has called an alarm specialist to come look at the system to see how extensive the damage is. Peter Schaaphok said the Town might want to review the whole system, which is connected to all the municipal buildings, as he believes there are problems with the system in other municipal buildings. Bill Seel agreed, saying he thought the alarm system had been disconnected at the Veterans Hall during the renovations.

Archer Batcheller Receives Ph.D.
Archer Batcheller from Petersburgh, Hoosick Falls class of 2001 and Princeton University class of 2005, recently completed his Ph.D. at the University of Michigan in Information Science. Veronica La Posta Graduates From SUNY Potsdam
The State University of New York at Potsdam recently conferred more than 650 bachelor’s degrees at the College’s annual Commencement ceremony, held on May 22 in a sunny celebration held in the Academic Quad.
The graduates included Veronica La Posta of Petersburgh who earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology. She was also named to the Dean’s List for academic excellence in the Spring 2011 semester.
