I read with amusement Gina Goodermote’s Letter of May 7 and her pronounced faith in the Gregory Administration and the Zwack BOE leadership. She states that “information given to the Community has been fiction and or the truth distorted.” Later she includes my name in her litany of offenders, so I presume her comment was, in part directed, to me. Charlie Dog Fund Raiser
The Petersburgh Fire Auxiliary is having a Charlie Dog fund raiser on Friday, May 21, beginning 4 pm and will last until the dogs are gone. Our previous sales have been a big success, and we’ve sold out in about 2 hours. They’re $ .75 ea., a ½ dozen for $ 4.75 and a dozen for $9. Pre-order your dogs ahead of time by calling Janet at 658-3053. We ask the community to continue to support us in our fund raising efforts and allow us to cook dinner for them.
The History Of The 125th New York Volunteers At The Taconic Valley Historical Society
Michael Barrett, Civil War historian, and Joseph Stickelmyer, author of Friend Jennie, will be the guest speakers at the May 17 meeting of the Taconic Valley Historical Society. Barrett will talk about the history of the 125th New York Volunteers.
Friend Jennie, by Mr. Stickelmyer, is a compilation of Civil War letters written by Lt. George Bryan of the 125th New York Volunteers, to his friend Jennie. Please join us for this very special evening.
The meetings will be held at the United Methodist Church, South Main Street in Berlin at 7:30 pm.
The programs is free and open to the public.
Petersburgh Turkey Shoot
The Petersburgh Rod and Gun Club will be holding a Spring Turkey Shoot on May 16 and May 23 at 12 noon. The Club is located on Scriven Road. Spend an exciting afternoon with your family. There will be homemade chili, hot dogs, hamburgers, baked beans, homemade pies, soft drinks and much more. We are holding a summer-wide 50/50 raffle will have some other raffles those days. Shotguns and .22 rifles only, no 10 gauge shotguns.

Catering Class Picnic For Seniors
Senior Citizens are invited to a pulled pork and pulled chicken picnic at Berlin High School on Wednesday, May 26, sponsored by the HS Catering Class, Cookie Monster Catering. The picnic will begin at 11:30 am and include food, fun and sunshine! (Well – food and fun are guaranteed!)

Hilda Allen
Petersburgh – Hilda Susan Moon (Sisk) Allen died in her sleep on May 6, 2010, shortly after her 92nd birthday. The daughter of John H. Moon and Lena (Babcock) Moon, she was born in Petersburgh, NY, where her family had lived since 1784. At Petersburgh Town Court on April 27, Jeff Collins of Brunswick was brought before Town Justice Paul Montgomery on charges of dumping garbage by the side of the road in Petersburgh.
The garbage was found by the side of Avery Hill Road. Petersburgh Town Highway Superintendent Ray Harrison said garbage is often dumped on that road, which comes off of Route 2 and has only one house on it. The Petersburgh highway crew found the garbage and had to pick it up. An animal had gotten into it and scattered it all around.

Flower Basket And Plant Sale
The Berlin FCCLA will be holding a Hanging Flower Basket and Plant Sale this weekend, just in time for Mother’s Day on Friday, May 7, from 4 to 7 pm and Saturday, May 8 from 9 am to noon in the parking lot at Eagle Energy, Rt. 22, in Berlin. Cheyenne Seel will be heading to Chicago in July to compete on the National Level and some of the proceeds from this sale will help cover her expenses. If you’re in the market for some beautiful plants, please stop by and see Cheyenne.
Petersburgh Fire Department Installation

The Petersburgh Fire Department held its annual installation banquet at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Petersburgh on Saturday, April 24.
After a delicious buffet of roast beef and turkey catered by Fresco’s Restaurant of New Lebanon, Battalion 5-0 Commander Cyril Grant swore in the officers. Bill Seel will be Chief again this year, and Nathan Michaels will be Assistant Chief.
